Enquiry is the art of asking questions. Finding the answers is often secondary to this as true enquiry always leads again to more questions. Onwards and onwards, in the never-ending pursuit of knowledge and understanding.
Forming questions comes so naturally to us. Some studies have shown that children can ask hundreds of questions a day! The opportunity to ask questions and pursue thoughtful inquiries is essential in learning and in developing learners. Enquiry-based learning is more than asking a student what he or she wants to know. It’s about triggering curiosity.
Through enquiry we are creating thinkers. Students who analyse, evaluate, connect and in the process, are using their brains in a much larger capacity. As educators, the challenge in our classrooms is how we get the students to discover learning for themselves. Introducing them to new ideas and skills is only the first step, where they go from there is limitless!
“Be Ambitious” is what we ask of our students every day. This phrase holds a deep philosophy that there is never a limit to learning, never a limit to what you can achieve. Onwards and onwards, our life-long learners never reach the end of a road, but will always find new roads to turn down.
