Geoffrey Barham

Year 6 teacher, English leader Primary

I qualified as a teacher in 1999, having completed a four-year degree course in Primary Education at the University of Wales. I spent 7 years as a full time KS2 teacher in the UK before taking up international teaching positions in Colombia, South Korea and Peru.

Although this is my first experience of living in Poland, I have many years of experience teaching children with international backgrounds and for whom English is a second language. I have been studying a master's degree in Education at the University of Bath and will complete it this year.

I moved to Warsaw with my wife, Giselly and my two children, Cerys and Oliver who both attend TBS.

I believe that children learn best when they feel safe and when they are provided with an engaging, varied and thought-provoking curriculum. I also think it is important that children are involved in making decisions about what and how they learn. As a teacher I see each child is different and as such has different needs to other children their own age; my job is to guide them to their next steps in their own learning process. I believe that learning should be both challenging and fun. I would like my students to finish the year with happy memories of their time in my class and a sense of the enormous possibilities that the future holds for them should they pursue their ambitions.
