I studied at Chetham’s School of Music, Manchester (UK) and then continued on to gain a Bachelor of Music (honours) at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Following that I worked in London and Wales as a teacher and trumpet player, playing for various orchestras and ensembles and working in schools in London. I was also the Musical Director of the North Powys Youth Band at this time and additionally adjudicated in the Urdd Eisteddfod (Welsh arts festival). I have an ABRSM Diploma in Trumpet performance and went on to gain a Postgraduate Certificate of Education at the University of Nottingham, UK.
From 2012 I spent seven years in Nur-Sultan (previously Astana), Kazakhstan where I taught for five years at the British School - Haileybury Astana - and also worked as co-principal trumpet at the Astana Opera House playing in the orchestra. I took up the post of Director of Music at Haileybury Astana and built the Music Department at the school - introducing a Junior and Senior Orchestra, a Kazakh Folk Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, and three new choirs. These ensembles embarked on many performances around the city and even went on tour to the UK. In 2013, I formed the Astana Music Society. This involved a community choir, folk ensembles, chamber and jazz ensembles playing at many venues across Kazakhstan for various concerts and events, including charity and diplomatic events. I am a great fan of Eastern Europe, but Poland was an undiscovered adventure for me. The Music Department seems very vibrant and I can’t wait to join the large family of Nord Anglia schools in such a vibrant city.
