Amy Shanahan

Early Years Teaching and Learning Assistant

Amy Shanahan recently completed a B.Sc. in Early Childhood Education with Trinity College Dublin. She has worked in a number of Early Years settings in Dublin, both during her degree and since graduating.

Amy has always had a passion for working with children. She was involved in Scouting from an early age and when she became one of the older members she would lead and train the younger Scouts in kayaking. Whitewater kayaking is one of her favourite pastimes and she is still heavily involved with her college club to this day. During her studies, Amy combined her love of the outdoors with her love of working with children and spent a summer working at a summer camp in Northern Ontario, Canada, as a rock climbing instructor. Amy loves to travel and one of her favourite ways to do this is by sailing on Tall Ships! She even had the unfortunate experience of being part of a crew on a ship when it hit rocks and sank off the Cork coast, this however, did not dull her love of water sports!

Amy’s three favourite things to do with children are explore the outdoors, arts and crafts, and music and dance. Amy loves teaching children how to play instruments. Her main instrument is the guitar, and she has just begun to teach herself the violin! When it comes to arts and crafts, Amy really values having a wide variety of open ended resources which provide every child with the opportunity for complete creativity. She also loves turning these opportunities into sensory experiences!

Amy adores supporting children to grow and develop every single day, celebrating these achievements with them, and is delighted to have the opportunity to do to this at NAIS Dublin.
