Whilst I very much enjoyed my time teaching in England, I decided to come to the British International School Bratislava in 2013 because of the amazing opportunity this presented. I first considered working in an international school because of the great links with my subject, and the shared emphasis on inclusion and understanding of other cultures. Because I have a Slovak partner, I was also keen to live in Slovakia so that I could learn the language and about the Slovak culture. I am delighted to be here now, and a very much enjoying living in Bratislava and teaching at the British International School Bratislava. I have been the ‘Head of Geography’ here since 2014, and the ‘CAS Coordinator’ since 2015.
I am a very active person and try to keep busy. In my free time I like to go on hiking trips and walks though Dubravka woods, and I am also learning how to sew and make clothes. I like to do regular exercise too, including Zumba, running and yoga.
A little known fact about me is that I have saved a life! A woman had stopped breathing, so I performed CPR until the ambulance arrived. The next day she walked past me but didn’t recognise me, as she had been unconscious when it had all happened.
What the students say about me:
“A very kind and caring teacher. She makes Geography fun.”
“A great teacher who can explain things clearly. I really learn something in the lessons.”
“An enthusiastic teacher who makes school fun.”
“Miss Williams is the best teacher in my school.”
