Drama Programme

Great acting begins with the joy of playing, the challenge of excellence, and the freedom to let the imagination soar. Guided by master teachers from New York’s Juilliard Drama Division, students attending Summer Performing Arts will enjoy learning creative physical expression, vocal exploration with text and music, ensemble acting, and a variety of fun techniques aimed toward liberating the theatrical imagination.

Working and playing individually and in groups, students will become immersed in the experience of heightened language, physical expression, and a uniquely rewarding process of acting.  Come join us as we bring the page to life and explore the joys of living vividly and creatively in a variety of theatrical circumstances.

For all Drama majors: The morning will be a series of technique classes to expand your instrument.  Through exercises and games, we will stretch, broaden, and strengthen the body, voice, and imagination.

In the afternoon:

Young Artists: Advanced Scene Study.  Students will learn to analyse a scene and bring it to life, through rigorous work on classic and comtemporary texts. A selection of scenes and monologues will be presented at the end of the session.

Discovery (Drama minors): Creating a character.  This course is an exploration of techniques for creating characters through movement, voice, text, and mask work.  Participants will discover ways to free the imagination and allow chacters to creatively emerege, develop, and participate in the process of telling the story.

The classes will offer experiences in the following:

  • Theatre games
  • Physical character
  • Audition techniques
  • Voice and speech
  • Warm up techniques
  • Shakespeare
  • Enhanced theatrical movement
  • Page to stage, bringing text to life

I am really thankful I got to meet the most amazing teachers and the most talented students.
