The Team

Seth Baer
Seth Baer - Director of Global K-12 Summer and Visiting Artist Programs

Bassoonist Seth Baer is a passionate performer and educator of music. He is a founding member of Decoda and an alumnus of Ensemble ACJW, an exciting fellowship programme at Carnegie Hall focused on chamber music, education, and community engagement. Seth is a member of the Princeton Symphony Orchestra and has performed throughout the United States and around the world including Japan, Italy and Germany. Seth went on to study music at The Juilliard School after graduating at the top of his class at Princeton University.

We have exceptional faculty leading the performing arts disciplines, read below to find out who will be teaching our child at this year’s programme.

Rebecca Anderson – Violin
Rebecca Anderson – Lead Faculty, Violin

Violinist Rebecca Anderson is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School, and is currently a fellow with Ensemble Connect (formerly Ensemble ACJW) for the 2016-2018 seasons. Her recent appearances include solo performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, contemporary music premieres with A Far Cry and members of eighth blackbird, and collaborative projects with Questlove and Ben Folds. Ms. Anderson’s passion for chamber music has led to festival appearances with Music@Menlo, Chamber Music Northwest and Music From Angel Fire festivals

Diego Garcia
Diego Garcia - Lead Faculty, Conductor and Cello

Diego has received great acclaim as music director and conductor at the Eastman School of Music. He is guest conductor for the Parnu Symphony Orchestra (Estonia), Flanders Music Festival (Belgium), Bard College Symphony Orchestra and Greece Symphony among others. Diego holds degrees from the Manhattan and Eastman Schools of Music. Currently, Diego is a conductor and cello faculty at the Dwight-Englewood School in Englewood as well as directing the Thurnauer Symphony Orchestra.

 Clara Kim - Violin
Clara Kim - Violin

Adventure and collaboration are at the heart of violinist Clara Kim’s multi-faceted career. She has had the honor of working with some of today’s most celebrated and imaginative composers such as Chris Theofanidis, Stephen Hartke, and the Sleeping Giant Collective.  First prize winner of the 2012 International Solo Violin Competition in Cremona, Italy, Clara also won the MPrize Chamber Arts and Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh competitions as a member of the Argus Quartet.  She has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam.  

Rachel Calloway
Rachel Calloway - Lead Faculty, Voice

Mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway's upcoming and recent performances include appearances with American Composers Orchestra; John Zorn at the Guggenheim and the Louvre, Third Coast Percussion and Opera Philadelphia. Ms. Calloway created roles in Steven Stucky and Jeremy Denk’s The Classical Style at Carnegie Hall through which she became a finalist for the internationally recognized Warner Music Prize. She holds degrees from The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music and serves on the faculty of the University of South Carolina.

Jean-Paul Bjorlin - Voice
Jean-Paul Bjorlin - Voice

Jean-Paul Bjorlin is a singer and pianist working in New York City, but is originally from Sweden. He teaches at Barnard College and Circle in the Square Theater School. In the summers, Jean-Paul has worked as a pianist and coach at the vocal program of Marlena Malas at the Chautauqua Institution. He completed his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees at the Juilliard School, studying voice. He has also completed his certification as a yoga instructor.

Vivian Chang  Freiheit - Lead Faculty, Piano
Vivian Chang  Freiheit - Lead Faculty, Piano

As collaborator with singers and instrumentalists, Vivian has performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Museum of Modern Art in NYC and the 92nd Street Y. During the 2016 summer season, Vivian performed as Artist-in-Residence at the Monteverdi in Tuscany, Italy and as faculty of Phoenix Phest based at Eastern Michigan University. Vivian studied both piano and violin at the Oberlin College-Conservatory, where she graduated Pi Kappa Lambda and was recipient of the Dean’s Talent Award. She continued her studies as a scholarship student at the Juilliard School, where she was a student of Samuel Sanders and earned her Master and Doctorate degrees in Collaborative Piano.

Scott Holden – Piano
Scott Holden – Piano

Scott Holden holds music degrees from the University of Michigan, Manhattan School of Music, and The Juilliard School.  In addition to his American schooling, he studied for a year at the Liszt Academy in Budapest as a Fulbright Scholar. He has performed in over 40 different American states.  His Carnegie Hall debut was a result of winning first prize in the Leschetizky New York Debut Competition. Performing internationally, he has appeared in Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Mexico, Russia, and Vietnam. Scott Holden is currently the department chair of piano and organ studies at Brigham Young University.

Laura Careless_CDL
Laura Careless - Lead FacultyDance

Laura Careless is a performing artist specializing in storytelling through movement. After graduating from Juilliard she became a founding performer of Company XIV, a NY-based, Drama Desk-nominated dance theater company. Her solo work, dedicated to telling ancient, unfamiliar stories in atmospheric and rural spaces, tour nomadically and can be viewed on her website, lauracareless.com. Upcoming projects include Rusalka, Met Opera; a commission for the students of NY Public School for Dance, where she is also on faculty; and development of a new work about the 'she-wolf' queens of medieval England.

Caroline Fermin - Dance
Caroline Fermin - Dance

Caroline Fermin is a graduate of the Juilliard School and has performed for a variety of ballet and modern companies including James Sewell Ballet, Chamber Dance Project, Sidra Bell, and Jeanette Stoner. She is a founding member of Gallim Dance where she was a company member for six years and served as Rehearsal Director and Education Chair. She works extensively with community engagement programs to bring her expertise in dance education and youth leadership to organizations such as New York City Center, Dancewave, and Artists Striving to End Poverty, This year will see Caroline teaching at Barnard College and choreographing for Stockton University’s dance program.

Ryan P. Casey – Dance
Ryan P. Casey – Dance

Ryan P. Casey is a “whimsically inventive” (The Boston Globe) tap dancer, teacher, choreographer, and dance writer who was named in 2015 as one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” and one of Boston’s “25 Most Innovative People Under 25.” In addition to his solo work, he has danced for Michelle Dorrance, Aaron Tolson, Billy Siegenfeld, and Adrienne Hawkins. With his company, Off Beat, he has presented work at numerous venues and festivals, including the Inside/Out series at Jacob’s Pillow. A regular contributor to Dance Studio Life Magazine, he currently teaches at The Dance Inn and Impulse Dance Center. Formerly on faculty at Boston University, he is a choreographer for the University of Connecticut Tap Team. Ryan is also a proud Capezio Athlete and alumnus of the National YoungArts Foundation, The School at Jacob’s Pillow, Legacy Dance Company, and NYU

Jenny Lord
Jenny Lord - Lead Faculty, Drama

Jenny directs and teaches at the Juilliard School in New York, where her productions include Measure for Measure, As You Like It, and All My Sons. She was the Associate Director for the Broadway productions of Twelfth Night and Richard III, featuring recent Oscar-winner Mark Rylance and directed by Tim Carroll. Jenny is a graduate of Yale University.

Mark Olsen
Mark Olsen - Lead Faculty, Drama

Mark is Teacher of Movement and Stage Combat for the Juilliard School Drama Division and the Chair of the Musical Theatre Program at the New York Film Academy. Formerly head of the MFA Graduate Acting Program at Penn State School of Theater, Mark has also taught at Columbia University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Houston, Ryerson Theater School (Toronto), Sarah Lawrence College, and New York Public Theater’s Shakespeare Lab.

Michael Rudko - Drama
Michael Rudko - Drama

A graduate of Yale and Juilliard, Michael Rudko’s work in the theater has taken him around the world.  He is the only actor to have performed Shakespeare on Broadway, at London’s Globe, at the ancient Greek theater at Epidaurus, and in El Paso, Texas.

Richard Dent - Drama
Richard Dent - Drama

Richard Dent is an actor and artist based in New York City. He attended the Juilliard school for actors training and has worked in various theaters in the US. His work as an artist has taken him to parts of Europe and the US to strengthen his craft, specifically in mask making. Recently Richard joined the faculty at HB Studios to develop a curriculum in Movement and Mask Performance.
