Britist International School Hanoi - Upcoming events

Dear Parents,

We had a tremendous turn-out of parents on Wednesday, for our first parent coffee morning of the year. New parents mingled with some of our longstanding parents; people of different nationalities became acquainted and parents were introduced to others who have children in the same class as their own child. I hope parents enjoyed the social event and feel enthused to further our drive this year to strengthen parent and teacher relationships.

Being ambitious for ourselves and our community is our goal at BIS. Through communities working together, we can be stronger and offer even better learning experiences for our students. With this in mind, I would like to summarise how you can get involved this year. The BIS will have 3 staff and parent working groups:

  • International Week

We hope that this group will be a large one as the aim is to make our International Week our biggest event of the year! The event is scheduled for W/C November 14th, with a fair on Saturday 19th November so we have lots of work to do. Our staff contacts for this group are Sally Tong and I (suehill@bishanoi.com and sallytong@bishanoi.com)

  • Social Events

This group will work with our Marketing Team and Kate Fitzpatrick (katefitzpatrick@bishanoi.com) to provide ideas and help organise staff and parent social events.

  • Community Services

Many relationships were formed between BIS and our community partners last year. We welcomed visits from children from the following organisations: Xa Dan (school for the deaf); Nguyen Dinh Chieu (school for the partially sighted); SOS Village and School on the Boat (disadvantaged children). In addition, we supported the following animal organisations: ENV (Save the Rhino), Cuc Phuong Endangered Primates Rescue Centre; Tam Dao Bear Sanctuary. The third aspect of Community Services is the environment: last year we created the BIS Garden. If you are interested in helping to further our community links then this is the group for you! Staff contacts are: Kev Halpin (kevhalpin@bishanoi.com) and Caroline Elliott (carolineelliott@bishanoi.com)

  • Class and Year Group Parents

Good parent and teacher relationships can really make a difference to students’ learning. The introduction of Class Parents in Primary and Year Group Parents in Secondary aims to facilitate communication between home and school and may take different forms according to the class and age of students. Here are some of the things a Class Parent or Year Group Parent may do:

-    Work with Admissions at BIS to help new families settle in to our community, especially if they arrive after the start of the academic year
-    Be a point of contact if a teacher would like assistance for events or school trips
-    Help remind parents about school events
-    Organise social events for the parents and/or families in the class

If you are interested in becoming a Class or Year Group parent, or in joining one of the working groups above then please complete the electronic questionnaire which will be issued by our Marketing Department today or contact the Primary Office.
