Britist International School Hanoi - Upcoming events

Chuc Mung Nam Moi and welcome back! It was lovely to come back and see staff and students refreshed and relaxed after the Tet break.

Our superhero focus this half term is Enquiry. The Questionator made a special appearance in our assembly today, encouraging the children to be brave and ask questions. Year 4 and Year 6 students were helping out and shared some important messages: Asking questions is really important to help our learning move forward, to challenge ourselves and to help change things. They taught us about significant women and men who have changed the world through asking questions. We know scientists are inquisitive by nature but they also talked about great women such as Rosa Parks and Malala Yousafazi who effected change by challenging and asking questions of society. Who knows what our talented young learners may discover or help change in the future.

Year 4 have been busy this week starting their new topic ‘What’s on the menu’. There were soft openings of three restaurants along the Y4 corridor this week with delicious morsels on offer. Guests were invited in and welcome by the Maître’ D, the seating host took them to their table and shared the menu and highlights on offer. It was another wonderful opportunity for the students to speak in different settings and perform in other ways. I think the level of service shows that parents could be in for a relaxing couple of days, if they bring their learning home this weekend.

Year 2 were feeling very colourful today. For their topic this half term, the Year 2s are learning about ‘Celebrations’ and this week they have learnt all about Holi Festival. Holi Festival is a Spring Festival celebrated in India and is known as the ‘Festival of Colours’. The children in year 2 had a great time having their own Holi Festival outside!

Primary Sports News

On Thursday, BIS Hanoi hosted the HAC Youth Basketball Festival, welcoming 27 teams from 7 schools. Our students, from Years 5 and 6, performed exceptionally well and gained invaluable experience from the tournament. They worked extremely hard for one another and battled throughout each game. Our teams combined won 9 games, drew 2 and lost one, with one team remaining unbeaten for the whole tournament.

Parents’ Evening

On Monday 12th – Wednesday 14th Primary Parents’ Evenings will take place. This is an opportunity for you to come and speak with your child’s class teacher about the progress they are making. Teachers will also share information from our recent Incas assessments with you as well as looking at the children’s work in the books. Appointment times will be sent home on Monday and we look forward to speaking with you.

Wishing you a relaxing weekend,

Ms Rebecca Carroll, Head of Primary
