Following another excellent nutritious breakfast at Shamba Kimpara camp students returned to Nasarati Primary School. We continued our work from yesterday, this time removing roots, weeds as well as rocks. As we worked, staff taught us about the various organisms in the soil such as ants and termites.

After lunch students began work on a compost heap. Everybody spread out across a field cutting dry and wet grass. The organic material was piled up into a compost heap. It will take a month for the organic material to decay and yield compost that can be used to fertilise the crop garden. Again, students discovered more about the local ecology during their work, they found a stick insect and a tortoise in the long grass.

The work today was tougher than yesterday but everyone pulled together and demonstrated excellent team-work. All staff were very proud of the students’ efforts today.

The day ended with time for a swim, rest, dinner and a final reflection.
