CAS Experience Leman Peace Garden

The existence of the Peace Garden at Leman started a few years ago, and continues to be a key location at the school. The aim of this article is to inform the Leman Community of the important purpose of the garden. Each year, the garden is maintained by a 12th grade student whose aim is to contribute to the school and society. This is part of the IBDP CAS Experience (Creativity, Action & Service).

In the Peace Garden, you can find coloured rocks with messages from each grade at school promoting and encouraging peace. The usage of these rocks is meant to be a symbol of nature and silence, informing students of the preciousness of nature.

Not only does the Peace Garden play the role of a place where students and teachers can reflect quietly and peacefully, but it also increases awareness for them that not everyone is as fortunate and lucky as us to live and go to school in peace. It reminds students that in order for global peace to happen, we must first start small and begin by taking action at school and at home.

Lastly, as the main person in charge of maintaining the garden, I have learnt the importance of responsibility and staying dedicated and motivated to a task with greater global significance. No matter how busy I get, plucking the overgrown grass in the garden each week has become a responsibility of mine. In addition, choosing the colours of the painted rocks requires careful planning and thought, because how well the colours of the rocks go together will significantly influence the appearance of the garden.
