Léman Does Dance

Léman Does Dance

The Juilliard Creative Classroom (Music, Dance Drama) has begun stage two of Leman’s implementation process. This year, our Dance Team, supported by the PE and Music Departments, will be enriching the lives of our students even further. From the youngest PK class on up to Grade 12, students will be experiencing a series of Core Works that Juilliard has chosen for their timelessness. Each famous piece has been sequenced into multiple activities, for all ages, and embraces the idea of ownership, collaboration, and of course, creativity.

 

The Core Works that have been chosen for the first quarter of enrichment classes are as various as the ages that will participate. From PK to G4, students will study “Space, Time, and Dance”, a Core Work that stretches the dance experience beyond the norm and is filled with activities that push students out of their comfort zones of movement. Grade 5 students will study “Folk Origins and Forms”, through a Core Work that introduces Flamenco, a dance that include intricate rhythmic footwork, expressive arm movements, and a proud carriage. Grades 6-12 students will study “Dance as Dramatic Expression” through a Core Work that uses movement to express essential, deeply human emotions. And since the world walks, talks, dresses, and interacts differently because of hip-hop’s influence, through two dance clubs G1-12 students will experience “From Street to Stage”.
