G3 have been studying about Land Sea and Sky in IPC.
We used the MIT curriculum to explore principles of flight, design thinking and mathematical problem solving. The students collaborated with G10 to develop, test and analyse different plane designs and their ability to fly for distance.
The G3 students enjoyed partnering with the G10’s who provided them critique, advice and guidance.
In this unit we have also looked at the history and development of flight along with researching individuals who had an impact on the world of flight.
Along with this unit, we also engaged in a skype session with an expert, a pilot in South Africa, where we gained more of an in depth knowledge of the principles of flight. We also had a fabulous field trip to Sichuan Airlines. The students loved experiencing the simulator and seeing the training the Airline staff go through to keep us safe in the skies.
To end the unit students used 3D design computer software to design what they thought the future of flight could look like. There were some amazingly creative designs!
