Mariam Khalik is the Head of Inclusion, managing the provision of behaviour and learning support and the EAL programmes in the Primary and Secondary years. Mariam has worked for Nord Anglia Education since 2010 and joined LIS Chengdu from Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong in 2019.
Mariam Khalik has a degree in Psychology from the University of Aberdeen, a PGDE in Primary Education with QTS from the University of Edinburgh and a postgraduate certificate with the National Award for SENCo qualification from the University of Middlesex. An experienced and qualified learning support leader who has created two successful learning support departments in Beijing and Hong Kong, Mariam is excited to be part of the LIS Chengdu academic team bringing her experience and knowledge to her role.
Mariam is a BPS Registered Qualified Test User and has a particular interest in assessments and how data can be used in the next steps of planning and personalised learning goals. She is CELTA, Orton Gillingham and PECs trained and is currently working towards her Masters in Education. Prior to relocating to Chengdu, Mariam has lived and worked as an EAL Teacher, Primary Class Teacher, SEN Teacher and Inclusion Leader in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cairo, Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong.
Mariam enjoys working closely with families and teachers. She believes everyone has the ability and potential to achieve, and it starts with believing in yourself. The role of educators is to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, so children and teenagers of all perceived academic abilities have the freedom, security and confidence to thrive.
Mariam loves travelling and learning about new cultures, languages and traditions. She is a fluent Arabic speaker and is currently enjoying the opportunity to practise Mandarin. In her free time, Mariam enjoys swimming, yoga and trying local cuisine.
