Anya Kusmierski, a native Californian from the San Francisco Bay Area, is happy to be returning to the Leman International School Chengdu community this year for her second year as the School Counselor and Learning Support Coordinator. Anya brings with her over 13 years of experience as a M.A. level school counselor and licensed mental health clinician working with culturally and linguistically diverse students facing varied life stressors, trauma and mental health and educational challenges, to support them in discovering their own sense of self, wellbeing and purpose. Anya has extensive experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, addressing issues of acculturation, personal and social identity formation and development, and inter-generational differences using an integration of evidenced base practices and person centered approaches. In additional to her masters in Counseling Psychology, Anya also has a Masters in Theater Arts, and draws upon this training and experience in her counseling work with children as well. These experiences and attributes, along with her perseverance, flexibility, cultural humility, and collaborative nature are qualities that lend themselves naturally to the school counselor role.
