Originally from the Caribbean, Cindy grew up in the United States where she taught for twelve years before moving to Asia. She has taught at The International School of Macau and the Canadian International School of Phnom Penh, prior to joining Léman in 2018. This is her 10th year in the international school system, and her 22nd year in the teaching profession. Ms. Ali was appointed as Lower Primary Coordinator for the academic year 2020-2021 and she is also teaching Year 1.
Cindy graduated from Nova Southeastern University in the United States where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, with a specialization in ESOL (English Speakers of other Languages) and the teaching of gifted children. She has primarily worked with lower primary and early years students and is very experienced in the field of second language learning. In the past, she has been an English Language Learners Coordinator where she supported students and teachers. Ms. Ali is passionate about teaching through inquiry-based learning and is trained in PYP and the Reggio Emilia Approach. Cindy believes that children’s interests should be used to inspire planning and create a personalised approach to learning. She makes it a priority to assist children in becoming confident and self-motivated learners through play, discovery and guided techniques. She wants to make sure her students are happy, independent learners and can access an inspiring learning environment.
Cindy is beginning her third year at Léman and greatly enjoys the serene lifestyle Chengdu has to offer. She is an avid traveler and enjoys scuba diving and sailing. She plans to thoroughly explore Sichuan and learn more about the culture and customs of this fascinating part of China.
