Katie Pass joined Léman International School in August 2017 as an MYP and DP English Language and Literature Teacher.  During her time spent at the school, she has taken on the role of Secondary School Counsellor and University Counsellor.  This academic year, Katie is a Year 9 Form tutor and teaches MYP English Language and Literature to Years 7, 9 and 10.

Katie graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 1991 with a BA Honours in English Studies where she developed her passion for literature especially Shakespeare and post-1914 prose.  An avid reader and a great enthusiast for historical fiction, Katie selects literature that will generate passion and interest in the young students she teaches.  Bringing Shakespeare to life in the International educational setting is an area that Katie relishes and has enjoyed much success in breaking down the language barriers so that students can see the relevance Shakespeare brings to everyday life.

In 1993, Katie completed her Post Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education at the Department of Education, University of Cambridge.  During this time, Katie benefitted from teaching in a variety of schools in the Cambridgeshire region.  To date, Katie has been teaching for 27 years, holding posts such as Head of English and Assistant Headteacher responsible for Assessment for Learning and Literacy across the Curriculum in the UK.  Moreover, Katie was selected to take part in the National Programme for Boys’ Achievement in 2005 where she developed strategies in a challenging school to overcome low academic performance and disengagement in boys from deprived areas in the UK.  In 2009, Katie emigrated to New Zealand where she taught in an all boys’ state school, Wellington’s top private girls’ school and finally, in a mixed state school.  Having wanted to travel and teach internationally, Katie accepted a Head of English and Head of Key Stage 4 Pastoral Leader position in Qatar before moving to China in 2014.  She took up the position as Head of English at Malvern College, Qingdao, before being part of the set- up team for Malvern College, Chengdu, where she undertook the role as Head of Girls’ Boarding.

Katie has had a wealth of experience teaching English and has held senior positions focused on raising student attainment.  In addition, she has demonstrated that she also has a passion for the pastoral management of students and; therefore, has secured positions enabling Katie to work closely with young people who face challenges and difficulty at school.
