Lazaro Gari Jr

  • 4 years IB Examiner experience

I have been teaching the IB Diploma Program and MYP specifically, Economics, Psychology, Business, TOK, and Humanities in China, the US, and Japan for 12 years and have Been an IB Examiner for 4 years. This is my first year as a DP coordinator, I primarily teach IB Grade 11-12 Economics, Business, and for grades 9 and 10 I teach Financial Literacy and Negotiations. 

As a 21st century Social Science teacher I have learned to create blended lessons that engaged all learners by using web 2.0 tools for content understanding at home (Digital classroom) so we can focus on complex problems or real-world projects in class.  I carried on this teaching approach to other subjects I had no experience like Psychology with great success.

I worked at an international school in Japan teaching 2 subjects. I have organized individualized projects, created 1 year learning targets and implemented structured lesson plans in every lesson.  Assessment methods like Summative and Formative Assessments in combination with projects, enabled me to evaluate the students individually and comprehensively.  In all my student teaching experience, I met with parents to keep them apprised of their child’s accomplishments and areas needing extra attention.Complex problems and real world projects are crucial for student’s ability to think critically.  In a staff development workshop I host every year called flip your class with the web, I present to staff the appropriate steps to providing a detailed and accurate approach to incorporating technology and the web in class empowering students to take on the assessments. 

In addition, I have attended multiple professional development workshops throughout the Asia region focusing on content and application in classrooms in order to provide students with effective learning and critical thinking skills. I am passionate about teaching and forging relationships with students and that help build a sense of confidence that enable students to grow as learners for the 21st century.
