Steven Pass

Steven hails from the Manchester area of the United Kingdom and attended public schools there until later graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. Immediately after his first university degree, he entered the hospitality management sector of industry.

After 4 years in industry, Steven decided to train to be a Secondary Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages and History as his second subject. He gained his Post-Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Aberystwyth in Wales in 1992. He then entered the teaching profession as a Teacher of German in a large secondary school in Northamptonshire, England. Around this time, he met Mrs. Pass who joined the school two years later.

Steven taught at a range of schools as well as acting as a County Adviser where he was brought in as a specialist to help senior leadership teams implement the introduction of the Secondary National Strategy which was the British Government’s policy in the mid-2000’s. Over the years, Steven achieved an MA in Educational Leadership from the Open University as well as the UK’s mandatory headship qualification – the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) from the National College for School Leadership.

Steven left the UK in 2009, where he was a Deputy Headteacher at a very high performing secondary school in Cheshire. Steven and Mrs. Pass decided to emigrate to New Zealand where they stayed for approximately five years before getting the ‘buzz’ for international education.

Short stays in Qatar in the Middle East and Qingdao in China where followed by finally moving to Chengdu in 2015 where he introduced EAL into the curriculum at a new school that opened in Chengdu that year. Last but not least, Steven joined Léman in 2017 as our current Head of Secondary School.

Steven is interested in travel and learning languages. He already has a good working knowledge of French and speaks German fairly well and, some day, he would like to learn Chinese! He loves reading and watching good films in spare time.
