Here at Nord Anglia International School Guangzhou, we want your child to have fun and be happy, safe and secure at all times. We want to inspire them to become purposeful and lifelong learners.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework in our Guangzhou Kindergarten, which covers children’s development from Toddlers to Reception (1 to 5 years old).

There are four themes within the EYFS Curriculum:

  • A Unique Child - Every child is a competent learner from birth and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
  • Positive Relationships - Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and carers.
  • Enabling Environments - The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending a child’s development and learning.
  • Learning and Developing - Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. All areas of learning and development are equally important.

These themes are used to underpin the learning and development that your child will take part in during their time in the EYFS.

How your child learns in Pre-School

Children learn in a variety of ways: by watching others, talking, asking questions, listening, exploring and investigating.

During play, children are supported and encouraged to find out more and explore; to play with what they know, and be willing to ‘have a go’; to be involved, concentrate, keep trying, and enjoy achieving what they set out to do; and to have their own ideas, make links and choose different ways to do things.

Areas of our kindergarten curriculum

The EYFS curriculum is organised into seven areas of learning and development:

• Personal, Social and Emotional Development
• Communication and Language
• Mathematical Development
• Understanding of the World
• Physical Development
• EAD - Expressive Arts and Design
• Literacy Development

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We provide children with experiences and support which help them to develop a positive sense of themselves and of others, as well as respect for others, social skills and a positive disposition to learn.

Communication and Language

Children’s learning and competence in communicating, speaking and listening is constantly supported and extended.

Mathematical Development

We develop children’s understanding of Maths in a broad range of contexts in which they can explore, enjoy, learn, practise and talk about their developing understanding.

Understanding the World

We support children in helping them to make sense of the world by offering opportunities for them to use a range of tools safely; to encounter creatures, people, plants and objects in their natural environments; to undertake practical experiments, and to work with a range of materials.

Physical Development

The physical development of students is encouraged by giving them opportunities to be active and interact and to improve their skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. They are always supported in developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity and making healthy choices in relation to food.

Expressive Arts and Design

Children’s creativity is encouraged by supporting their curiosity, exploration and play. Our pupils are provided with opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of art, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role-play activities, design and technology.

Literacy Development

Children’s learning and competence in beginning to read and write is constantly supported and extended.

The Early Years programme at our kindergarten in Guangzhou enables your child to develop their personalities, talents and abilities. This enables them to develop a strong sense of self, to feel positive about their abilities as a learner, to form constructive relationships and become confident communicators.
