OUR INTERNATIONAL EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM AT BSG

At the British School of Guangzhou, our British Early Years Programme covers Toddlers, Pre-Nursery, Nursery, and Reception stages of your young child's education. We always want them to have fun and be happy, safe, and secure at our private preschool in Guangzhou, so as part of our British Early Years curriculum, we create exciting learning experiences from the very start to inspire your child to become a purposeful and lifelong learner.

THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) BRITISH CURRICULUM

Coming from the British National Curriculum for Early Years – and informed by our British heritage and international school environment – we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) British Curriculum framework in our Guangzhou private preschool and kindergarten, which covers children’s development from Toddlers to Reception (1 to 5 years old).

There are four themes within the EYFS British Curriculum:

A Unique Child: Every child is a competent learner from birth and can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured.
Positive Relationships: Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and carers.
Enabling Environments: The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending a child’s development and learning.
Learning and Developing: Children grow in different ways and at different rates, and all areas of learning and development are equally important

We use these themes throughout the learning and development of your child in the EYFS.

HOW YOUR CHILD LEARNS AT OUR EARLY YEARS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL IN GUANGZHOU

Children learn in a variety of ways: by watching others, talking, asking questions, listening, exploring, and investigating.

During playtime, we support your child and encourage them to find out more as they explore; to play with what they know and to be willing to ‘have a go’; to be involved, to concentrate, to keep trying, and to enjoy achieving what they set out to do; and to have their own ideas, to make links, and to choose different ways to do things.

Our littlest learners start their day in the best possible way: singing, dancing, and sharing stories with their friends! They learn vital speaking and listening skills, and practice taking turns, too.

Learning through play

Every lesson is packed with purposeful play. Curious minds discover the wonders around us in our natural world area, create and innovate in our STEAM zones, and get an early introduction to numeracy in our maths corner.

Be active, be healthy

From making nutritious choices around snacks to getting active, we encourage healthy habits every single day. Physical activities – including learning to swim, cycle, and play as a team – improve our young learners’ eye-hand coordination.

It’s time for an adventure! Your child will explore every corner of our campus and outdoor Early Years spaces, cooking up a storm in our mud kitchen, learning how to ride a bike, or simply having fun in our playground.

Story time

A highlight of the day – for our teachers, too – story time takes our children on a journey into the unknown, exploring magical worlds from the comfort of our cosy reading area. Our students also listen to stories in Mandarin.

Creative classes

Our students’ imaginations are limitless – and our arts and music activities really get young minds ticking. Playing instruments, learning songs, and getting creative with colours, textures, and design – every day is full of opportunities for artistic expression.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We provide your child with the experiences and support that help them develop a positive sense of themselves and of others, as well as respect for others, social skills, and a positive disposition for learning.

Communication and Language

We constantly support and extend each child’s learning and competence in the areas of communicating, speaking, and listening.

Mathematical Development

We develop your child’s understanding of maths in a broad range of contexts. They can explore, enjoy, learn, practise, and talk about their understanding of maths.

Understanding the World

We support your child to make sense of the world by offering opportunities to use a range of tools safely; to encounter creatures, people, plants, and objects in natural environments; to undertake practical experiments; and to work with a range of materials.

Physical Development

We encourage the physical development of your child by giving them opportunities to be active, to interact with others, and to improve their skills of coordination, control, manipulation, and movement. We always support them in developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity and in making healthy choices in relation to food.

Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)

We encourage your child’s creativity by supporting their curiosity, exploration, and play. We give them opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings through a variety of art, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role-playing activities, design, and technology.

Literacy Development

We constantly support and extend your child’s literacy as they begin to read and write. The EYFS British curriculum enables your children to develop their personalities, talents, and abilities. In turn, they also develop a strong sense of self, feel positive about their abilities as a learner, form constructive relationships, and become confident communicators.
