OUR INTERNATIONAL EARLY YEARS CURRICULUM AT BSG

At the British School of Guangzhou, our British Early Years Programme covers Toddlers, Pre-Nursery, Nursery, and Reception stages of your young child's education. We always want them to have fun and be happy, safe, and secure at our private preschool in Guangzhou, so as part of our British Early Years curriculum, we create exciting learning experiences from the very start to inspire your child to become a purposeful and lifelong learner.

THE EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) BRITISH CURRICULUM

Coming from the British National Curriculum for Early Years – and informed by our British heritage and international school environment – we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) British Curriculum framework in our Guangzhou private preschool and kindergarten, which covers children’s development from Toddlers to Reception (1 to 5 years old).


There are four themes within the EYFS British Curriculum:


  • A Unique Child: Every child is a competent learner from birth and can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured.
  • Positive Relationships: Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and carers.
  • Enabling Environments: The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending a child’s development and learning.
  • Learning and Developing: Children grow in different ways and at different rates, and all areas of learning and development are equally important

We use these themes throughout the learning and development of your child in the EYFS.

HOW YOUR CHILD LEARNS AT OUR EARLY YEARS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL IN GUANGZHOU

Children learn in a variety of ways: by watching others, talking, asking questions, listening, exploring, and investigating.

During playtime, we support your child and encourage them to find out more as they explore; to play with what they know and to be willing to ‘have a go’; to be involved, to concentrate, to keep trying, and to enjoy achieving what they set out to do; and to have their own ideas, to make links, and to choose different ways to do things.

Story time
A highlight of the day – for our teachers, too – story time takes our children on a journey into the unknown, exploring magical worlds from the comfort of our cosy reading area. Our students also listen to stories in Mandarin.

Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
We encourage your child’s creativity by supporting their curiosity, exploration, and play. We give them opportunities to explore and share their thoughts, ideas, and feelings through a variety of art, music, movement, dance, imaginative and role-playing activities, design, and technology.

Literacy Development
We constantly support and extend your child’s literacy as they begin to read and write. The EYFS British curriculum enables your children to develop their personalities, talents, and abilities. In turn, they also develop a strong sense of self, feel positive about their abilities as a learner, form constructive relationships, and become confident communicators.
