The aim of the swim league is for us to better track our competent swimmers so that we can enter more swim meets with better accuracy and knowledge of times and specific individual strengths.
We have a lot of swimmers at school that cannot commit to a regular training programme at school or at another venue. Similarly we have a number of students that we know train away from school. As a result we are creating this Swim League in order to track progress of our swimmers. This is not a coaching session or teaching lesson. We expect all students to be competent at Swimming 50m in at least 2 strokes.
The sessions will consist of 3 aspects.
1. Swimming Fitness: Undertaking an interval, distance, pyramid or similar based swim fitness session each week.
2. Develop skills in diving and turning in order to improve times.
3. Race practice: Undertake a number of races over 25m, 50m and 100m each week in order for us to track and record times.
We will not be giving specific feedback on technique and encourage that other coaches or sessions are used for this.
The sessions on Tuesday and Thursdays will be exactly the same. Students can attend one or both sessions but please note that Tuesday and Thursday will be exactly the same and so if they are repeated then it may become tedious for the individual student.
Furthermore, if a child can only attend once per term, then this will still ensure that we can keep track of the individuals strengths and times.
SCORING AND PRIZES
For those students that attend there will be a league running based on attendance, progress and race performance.
The basic format will be:
- A student attending a practice will be awarded a fixed number of points each week. This will reward the students that take part more often but are not necessarily the best.
- A student participating in the races during the session will be awarded a number of points based on their position in that race.
- A students progress across the term in relation to times will be awarded a respective number of points.
The winner at the end of the term will be awarded a prize.
Finally, if you do wish to send your child, can you please confirm what day they will be staying behind for me to inform the bus monitors and avoid any clash at the end of the day. Additionally please ensure that you make arrangements to collect your child at 4pm on non ASA nights and 5pm on ASA nights. The school will not provide a late bus.
