Celebrating the achievements of our IB Music students

20 一月 2014

On Thursday afternoon, one of our Year 13 students flew to Hong Kong for an audition for the Royal College of Music. She will soon be joined by Mint Lee who will also be auditioning for this prestigious institution.

On behalf of the Senior School we would like to wish our students all the very best for these grueling and rigorous auditions.

We are very proud of the remarkable achievements of all our Senior Music students. The Year 13 IB Music class is a pool of musical talent. All five of the Year 13 music students have completed and advanced grade examination through the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music (ABRSM). In addition to grade examinations starting with Grade 1 for beginners all the way to Grade 8 for advanced performers, the ABRSM offers professional level diploma examinations. Typically very advanced students studying music at university level or higher would attempt these advanced examinations. Three of our music students have been awarded at least one of these professional diplomas.

Jennifer Lin recently met the requirements for an Associated Board performer’s Diploma. She is to be congratulated on this outstanding achievement. Amanda Zhu has also recently been awarded her third Associated Board advanced diploma. In addition to a Performer’s Diploma and Licentiate in Pianoforte she has also recently completed a Performer’s Diploma in ‘cello.

Gina Jiang in addition to ABRSM Grade 8 Violin has completed the highest level in Gu Zheng at the Shanghai Conservatory. Gina has performed in local and national competitions and we invited to perform at a TEDx conference in Toronto in October 2011.

Kerstin Pan is a talented and musical pianist. She has completed her Grade 8 ABRSM examination and performs regularly at school recitals.

Mint Lee is another up and coming young pianist who was admitted to an ABRSM Fellowship in 2013. This is a remarkable achievement for such a young pianist.

In recognition of Mint and Amanda’s contribution to the school they have been given Senior School leadership responsibility. Amanda is the head chorister and Mint the musical director of the IB choir.

The final IB recitals will be taking place March 21. This will be your last opportunity to hear to this group of remarkable and talented young musicians performing at our school. All are welcome so please save the date!
