  • Exploring our learning in Year 3

Information and Reminders

  • Please make sure you also let the class teacher know if your child’s end of day arrangements have been changed so there is no confusion.
  • Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school.
  • Reading challenge – You need to sign and date your child’s learning journal 3 times in one week after you have heard them read then they will receive a Dojo point. If children are not reading regularly at home then they will attend lunchtime reading club on a Friday. We hope for your support!

3C –  Penny Kim for always putting in 100% to everything in school life

Next week we will continue to read the text of ‘Birth of the Stars’. We will look at features of a myth and write our own myth based on the text. Check out the website we will be looking at

Also Sarah Brennan is visiting us on Thursday so before her visit we will research information about her as well as preparing some questions to ask her on the day.

In Guided Reading the children will apply their knowledge of root words, prefixes and suffixes both to read aloud and to understand the meaning of new words met.

Next week we will begin a new unit ‘Measuring Space’. We will start by focusing on ‘Weight’. We will use digital and mechanical scales to measure mass to the nearest kg (kilograms) and g (grams). The topic homework to make biscuits will help your child use these units in a real life context. We will compare the mass of two or more objects.

As Geographers we will use websites to find the temperature, precipitation (that means rainfall) and sunlight for any place in the world. We will compare Shanghai to another place in the world to create a factfile. We will discuss what sports people do in each season and why. We will learn to use a map to locate countries and look at longitude and latitude lines.

We will continue our new topic of ‘We are opinion pollsters’. We will be working with the school council to create an opinion poll on an issue they want feedback on from the children in the school, e.g. lunchtime. We will then seek responses from children across the school and then analyse the results by creating graphs.
