James studied Politics and International Relations at Southampton University before taking a CELTA qualification course. He then moved to China to teach EAL to students of various ages and abilities. James then took his PGCEi and began working in a bilingual school, teaching GCSE English as a Second Language, GCSE English Language and IELTS preparatory courses. Now with over ten years of EAL teaching experience in China, James is delighted to be teaching at BISS Puxi.
James is passionate about making EAL learning an accessible and enjoyable experience, and works tirelessly to make sure his students have all the skills they need to become successful communicators in the English language. He adopts a discovery-based approach in the classroom, allowing students to explore the language and gain confidence in their own abilities through trial and error. James has a positive and relaxed attitude to teaching that is, nevertheless, underpinned by a strong desire to push students to progress and succeed.
James is a dedicated father and husband, and likes to spend his free time exploring the world with his wife and daughter. James speaks good Mandarin, often to the surprise of his Chinese-speaking students! In the evening, he loves nothing more than to relax with a good sci-fi novel and a cup of Earl Grey tea.
