Our school is open to children aged 3-18. We accept applications all year round and new students can start at any time.
We teach the English National Curriculum to students aged 3-16 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) to our 16-18 learners.
Your child’s year group
Our students are placed in year groups based on their age, mirroring the UK system. This means children aged five (before 31st August of each academic year) join us in Year 1, children aged six join us in Year 2, and so on.
As an international school, with children coming from a variety of backgrounds and education systems, there are times when we don’t place a child in the year group that corresponds to their age. This is usually done for one or more of the following reasons:
The child is coming from an education system where different curricula, subjects and content have been taught.
The child is coming from an education system where the start and end of the academic year differ.
The child’s most recent school report indicates they won’t be able to follow the curriculum taught to their age group.
We also look at each child’s educational history, and may invite them to sit an assessment to determine where they should be placed. We never place students in older year groups.
Assessments
As part of the admissions process, every child sits an assessment. This ensures we're able meet their learning needs and offer the right blend of challenge and support. Our assessments and interviews vary depending on the age of each child, but may include class observations and English speaking, writing, and cognitive ability tests.
All our lessons are taught in English, which is why it’s so important that your child is sufficiently fluent. Our expert English as an Additional Language (EAL) team can help students who need extra support.
