Where is “home” for you?

Home is where you can be who you truly are, and become who you’re truly meant to be. It is also the presence of love and comfort from the people that you know.

What do you do in Abu Dhabi?

I am a part of the Finance Team in BIS Abu Dhabi as Head of Accounts Payable.

What brought your family to Abu Dhabi?

One of the reasons we are here in Abu Dhabi is because of my husband, who is working in Abu Dhabi. I can say another reason is fate. Before I came here, me and my 3-month-old son were about to go to Oman where I worked for more than 3 years as a Finance Officer. But unfortunately getting a visa for my son was not easy. So, I decided to resign from my work and be together with my family here in Abu Dhabi.

Tell us something that few people know about you:

My family and friends call me Angel. I came from a small town in the Philippines called Cabatuan. Cabatuan is known as the land of giant rice mills, agriculture and hardworking Ilocanos. Being a major rice producing town we are dubbed the Land of the Golden Grains.

I grew up in a family that valued education. My father always told us that being an educated person was very important in our lives. No one can take that from us. He kept on reminding us that he cannot give us a vast amount of land, but he will do his best to support our education. As a result, we studied well and we all gained Degrees; me as a Certified Public Accountant, and I am proud to say that I have a sibling who is a Licensed Nurse, a Geodetic Engineer and a Doctor.

What is your favourite thing about being a part of the BIS Abu Dhabi community?

The people - during this time where everything is uncertain, being a part of the BIS Abu Dhabi community makes me feel safe and secure.

What tips or advice would you give to new families joining BIS Abu Dhabi?

First, I would like to say welcome, and you made the right choice in choosing BIS Abu Dhabi. We, in the Finance Team are committed and dedicated to helping every member of the school. You can always count on us. Just shout 'Angel' and I will come flying wherever you are.

What do you enjoy most about living in Abu Dhabi?

Abu Dhabi is such an amazing place to live. We have lived here for 7 years, and we never feel bored. It is a family-friendly city from parks, to malls, to restaurants - there is always a place for a family to bond together.

Anything else you would like to share?

I love music and I love to sing. I can sing from sunrise to sunset without getting tired. Every choir that I joined was always the best, but I am always wondering why they would not allow me to sing solo!
