Dear Parents,

I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our BIS families; to new parents, I hope you are settling into life in Hanoi and that all your children have had a great first few days.  Our teaching staff were delighted to welcome all students back on Wednesday morning and there was a buzz of excitement as friends reunited with laughter in the corridors and the sharing of stories of summer adventures. All students, have been looking smart in their school uniforms and are settling in well to their new classes.

Over in EYC, Year 1 children were exploring the new classrooms that have been created over the summer along with many other exciting renovations and improvements that have happened across the school. We were incredibly proud of all our new students but none more so than our youngest children in F1 and F2 who have been very brave and made a great start to the year in their new classes. For many, it is the first time they have been to school and the have adapted very well indeed.

At BIS we value the importance of first language (mother tongue) development and know that it is key in the acquisition of additional languages. However, we want all our students speaking English during the day in school and to maximise every opportunity to hear English, speak English and develop their English language skills. Our classrooms, corridors, library and canteen are all English Speaking Zones and this is being reinforced and celebrated by all staff every day.

On Tuesday, we invite you to our ‘Meet the Teacher’ sessions. You can choose to attend either: Session 1 at 15:15 or Session 2 at 16:15. This is an invaluable opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher and find out more details about routines, the curriculum and events in the year ahead.
In addition, there are also ‘Meet the Librarian’ sessions at 14:30 and 15:30. I do hope you take the opportunity to pop in and learn about how you and your child can benefit from this fabulous learning space.

Our House Sorting Assembly was a fantastic way to end the first week at school with all our new students being allocated into their House Teams - though I’m not sure if our new teachers were more excited than our new students!

Wishing you and your children all the very best for the academic year ahead and I look forward to meeting with you soon.
