Recently, our newly formed BISB Community Links club were given the opportunity to grow together as a community and help others through our first ever annual BISB 1% Charity Fair.

This event brought together 9 charities at our school and not only helped us to raise awareness and find out more about ongoing issues, but also gave the opportunity for donation through the 1% tax law (in which 1% of your tax can go to a charity of your choice). Through this we managed to establish links with the community as well as build relationships with the charities who came to the event. The charities were:

  • Autistic Art Foundation
  • Csodalámpa Alapítvány (Magic Lamp Foundation)
  • Food for Life Foundation
  • Jane Goodall Institute of Hungary
  • Juhász Zsófia Református Szeretetotthon Fogyatékkosokat Ápoló és Gondozó Intézmény
  • Menedék – Hungarian Association for Migrants
  • Oltalom Karitatív Egyesület
  • Óhegy Egyesület
  • Saint Margaret’s Anglican Church
  • Cseppkö Gyermekotthon

The event was organised through a collaborative student effort and was inspired by the Nord Anglia Global Challenge. This Global Challenge relates to two of the United Nations sustainable development goals, with the focus of this 1% charity fair being on hunger and poverty. The initiative was also a CAS project; students must complete Creativity, Activity and Service projects as part of their IB Diploma.

Overall, we are extremely happy to have been able to host and organise such an event. It will become an annual event in the BISB Calendar and we hope to involve and support even more people and more charities in the years to come.

Thank you
