Cha-Ching! High School Sophomore Takes Third in Illinois Investment Contest Alvaro L. beat out 82 Illinois teams, achieving a fantastic 13% return on his virtual investment in the Fall 2015 session of The Stock Market Game™.

Congratulations to Alvaro L., Year 11, who placed third in the Fall 2015 session of The Stock Market Game™!

The Stock Market Game, presented by the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association, is an online simulation of the global capital markets. Students are challenged to develop a successful investment portfolio by investing a virtual $100,000. They gather news and data on potential investments, buy and sell real-world stocks, bonds and mutual funds, write an essay addressing issues in saving and investing, and much more.

Last fall, nearly 13,000 Illinois students in Grades 4-12 participated in the program. Alvaro beat out 82 teams in the Grades 9-12 division, achieving a fantastic 13% return on his virtual investment. BISC students have the opportunity to participate in The Stock Market Game as part of the Business Studies course taught by Mr. Adam Johnson.

On January 14, Headmaster Michael Horton and Mr. Johnson joined Alvaro for the awards ceremony at the Chicago Board Options Exchange, where Alvaro received a certificate and medal. During the ceremony, Alvaro also presented his experience with The Stock Market Game, discussing his research, overall investment strategy and performance.

We are so proud of Alvaro!
