PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

NAIS Al Khor_Qatar_2020_002

At Nord Anglia International School Al Khor, we value the importance of professional development for our staff and encourage each and everybody in our school to be ambitious. Highly trained, motivated, inspirational teachers are key to improving teaching and learning outcomes to the benefit of our students. Being a member of the Nord Anglia Education group of schools offers our staff a wealth of professional development opportunities at all levels that are supported by our personalised learning programmes through Nord Anglia University. This is an online and face to face learning platform that allows our staff to develop their subject expertise, understanding of the latest educational research, excellence in teaching approaches and leadership skills. Our teachers can share ideas, inspiration and challenges with colleagues around the globe through communities, as well as examples of best practice from across our family of schools.

For staff who are committed to developing their leadership skills and passions, the Middle Leadership and Senior Leadership programmes are great platforms for personal growth. These are led by senior leaders from across the organisation as well as key speakers from the world of education and industry. We are very excited to be sending staff from NAISAK on both programmes again this academic year. As part of our collaboration with Kings College London, we have two members of the Primary teaching team who are in the second year of their Masters in International Education Leadership. There is already keen interest from staff who are excited to submit their applications to be part of the next cohort.

Our students at NAISAK are the heart of our school and embrace the opportunities of what comes with being a Nord Anglia Education student. Through Global Campus, students learn beyond the classroom and can participate in a wide variety of activities designed by educational experts and teachers to broaden their knowledge and nurture transferable skills valuable in school, university and the workplace. Students are also provided with a fantastic opportunity to be ambitious and challenge themselves through a unique and highly enjoyable programme in Tanzania that is designed to enable them to grow personally and emotionally. The activities support key skills such as confidence, resilience, independence and leadership, all essential in a child’s education, career and life as a global citizen.

The school also boasts a number of partnerships with top universities and organisations that bring education to life for the students in our school. Our Performing Artists benefit from our partnership with the world’s leading Performing Arts college, The Juilliard School, New York. Our students develop their understanding of global issues through our Model United Nations programmes and our work with the Global Goals of UNICEF (The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund). This year we are looking forward to implementing our STEAM Programme in conjunction with the top university in the world, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). STEAM stands from Science, Technology Engineering, Art and Mathematics.

We encourage our whole school community to be ambitious, to lead their own development and to be reflective learners…regardless of age!

Middle Leadership Programme

This year I have applied to the Nord Anglia Middle Leadership Programme. The reason for this is that, as well as progressing my career as a teaching professional, I would like to implement knowledge that I learn from this programme into our school to create a strong, supportive Middle Leadership Team. I have enjoyed reading articles and researching different approaches to teaching, discussing our thoughts on the Nord Anglia University forum. I am looking forward to attending the residential, allowing me to meet other professionals and share our wealth of knowledge and experience. I believe that my passion for lifelong learning, determination and hard work will help me to achieve success on this course.

Senior Leadership Programme

One of the beautiful aspects of being part of our global family of NAE schools is the opportunity to attend tailored courses and through them, network with colleagues. The Senior Leadership Programme, delivered by the NAE Director of Professional Development, answers the theoretical and practical questions we, as leaders on the ground, may have. The two residentials allowed me to deepen my insight into leadership literature and research, and at the same time practise a variety of high-level skills in fast-changing environments. In parallel, the monthly tasks helped me apply the newly gained tools in my specific context. As hard work as it is, the programme and its leaders are inspiring and the moments shared with colleagues re-energising.
