Outstanding experiences

A world of opportunities
Inspiring your child to thrive beyond the classroom.

Exceptional experiences for every student

At BISB, we want our students to engage in the world around them. We encourage every student to pursue their passions, both in and outside of the classroom, and learn in different ways.

From performing arts and sports, to science, languages and the environment, we offer unforgettable experiences, extra-curricular activities, and residential trips that inspire and shape futures.

Whatever your child chooses to do, we make sure they’re safe, supported, and included. And by working with renowned global organisations – who offer one-of-a-kind opportunities that nurture our students’ talents – your child will develop the confidence, resilience, and creativity they need for success.

Performing arts

At BISB, we’re passionate about the performing arts. Drama, dance and music enrich our curricula and extra-curricular programmes, which are delivered by specialist teachers in purpose-built creative spaces.

Through our exclusive collaboration with The Juilliard School, students enjoy a world-class learning experience. In our state-of-the-art music rooms and studios, both experienced musicians and those who want to learn something new receive the highest standard of teaching. Our instrumental programme is accredited by the Associated Board for the Royal School of Music (ABRSM), an internationally recognised mark of musical success.

There’s something for everyone at our creative after-school clubs, whether that’s singing in a choir or band, learning the ukulele, or starring in a school production.

STEAM
Inspiring curiosity through challenge and problem solving, our science, technology, engineering, arts and maths (STEAM) programme is an innovative way of learning.

STEAM

STEAM is a dynamic educational approach that encourages your child to think differently through unique creative challenges. In collaboration with MIT, our STEAM programme develops students who can solve problems, work together, and challenge the norm.

One project – which asked students to demonstrate how oceans affect the weather – highlights the multi-disciplinary benefits of STEAM. Students researched and investigated the topic before working together to produce films, create board games, write music, and choreograph dance productions. Learning in this way put their ingenuity to the test, helping them to think differently and grow in confidence.

Sports

Competing and having fun in both team and individual sports, your child will show off their skills, try new things, and maintain their health and fitness.

Sports

Taking part in sport and physical activity is a vital part of our students’ development. Getting active helps them to feel physically and mentally healthy, encourages teamwork, and builds resilience. To make sure every student is comfortable and included, we offer a wide range of after-school sports clubs and activity programmes. We want everyone to find something they enjoy.

Our specialist physical education staff work with world-class external coaches, supporting talented athletes to shine. All our students have access to our outstanding facilities, including indoor and outdoor gyms, a 200m athletics track, all-weather pitch, 1.2 square kilometres of playing fields, and dance studio.

DOFE
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award
The world’s leading youth achievement programme gives your child the chance to do what they love, try something new, and make a real contribution to the community.
The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

As part of our commitment to truly personalised learning, we encourage our students to take part in The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. Through the Award, each student sets their own goals and challenges. They can choose to do what they know and enjoy or try something different.

As they progress through each stage of the Award, students develop resilience, learn more about themselves, and grow in confidence. This complements their learning inside the classroom, bringing together real experiences with the softer skills that create open-minded global citizens.

EXTRAORDINARY TRIPS AND EXPEDITIONS

A world of adventure awaits, thanks to life-changing expeditions and residential trips that offer truly unforgettable experiences.

Global expeditions
Our secondary students can choose to take part in Nord Anglia’s global expeditions at dedicated centres in Tanzania and Switzerland.
Global expeditions

Our once-in-a-lifetime citizenship expedition to Arusha, Tanzania, teaches students about global responsibility and sustainability, and the important role we play in looking after our planet. Working with the local community on various projects, students develop a sense of independence, increase their understanding of the world, and learn the importance of being part of a community.

The personal challenge expedition in Les Martinets, Switzerland, encourages students to push themselves to their limits. Set in the breathtakingly beautiful Swiss Alps, students hike through the mountains and take on a series of challenges. Under the watchful eye of expert guides, students learn important skills – like cooking and working together under pressure – while creating treasured memories that will stay with them forever.

Residential trips
Our national and international trips give students a taste of the world around them, developing independence and helping them form lifelong friendships.
Residential trips

We encourage our students to take part in immersive trips away from school from an early age. From outdoor and adventurous activities to academic field trips, our residential programmes are designed to broaden horizons.

Our trips include week-long adventure camps in Putterershlossl near Aigen, Austria, a sailing trip in Neusiedl am See, Austria, and an Eco-Committee and Student Council visit to an Educational Environmental Centre in Eastern Slovakia. Our Key Stage 3 students also enjoy a week-long ski trip to Obertauern in the stunning Austrian Tyrol.

With their friends in safe but stimulating environments, our students build strong bonds, learning about themselves and each other. We run a rich programme of academic field trips, too – including to Berlin and Florence – which enhance the learning that takes place in our classrooms.

Local trips and excursions
There’s so much to see and do in our beautiful city, from day trips to galleries and museums to outdoor activities around our hillside campus.
Local trips and excursions

One of the highlights of our early years curriculum is our Forest School programme. Introducing students to the local and global environment, the programme takes our young explorers on fascinating field trips into the forest, parks, farms, and zoos.

Being located close to large multinational companies gives our students an invaluable insight into the world of work, with visits complementing our STEAM programme. Trips to museums and galleries bring culture and history to life, adding a real-world dimension to subjects including art, history and geography.

WELLBEING

SUPPORTING YOUR CHILD

Your child’s health and well-being are our number one priority. We know that students who feel safe, included and supported – and who are happy and engaged – thrive, both academically and socially.

Our highly qualified pastoral care team, which includes a psychologist, behavioural specialists and safeguarding team, are on hand to provide the personalised care and guidance our students need. In a recent survey, 94% of our parents said their child felt safe at our school.

In a supportive environment, students learn about important topics in an age-appropriate way. These include sexual health and relationships, and how to prepare for university life. We believe a well-rounded education should include a thorough personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education programme, which teaches the skills vital for students to flourish as individuals and members of society.

OUR SOCIAL PURPOSE

DRIVING CHANGE

Our students are a force for good, creating change in our community, nationally, and across the world.

Your child will become a confident, open-minded, conscientious global citizen through one-of-a-kind learning experiences and collaborations. In school, our Student Council leads the way on important issues, including the environment. We’re an accredited Eco-School, and our Eco-Committee runs monthly campaigns on topics like food waste and plastic pollution.

While they’re with us, we encourage every student to take part in enrichment programmes that give them a global perspective, like The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award and Model United Nations. Our students also get involved in the local community, fundraising for charities like Plamienok. To formalise their experiences, we encourage our young leaders to enrol on Council of British International Schools (COBIS) leadership training.
