The Seoul Model United Nations (SEOMUN) conference plays host to some of the best student debaters found in Asia. For 3 days in late November more than 600 students from across Asia and North America came together at the Korea International Exhibition Centre to discuss and deliberate on some of the most pressing issues facing the world today.

Students were tasked with representing their allocated countries, proposing resolutions and seeking collaborative solutions to help build a better future.

The international nature of the SEOMUN conference was captured by this year’s theme “Embracing diversity”, and in keeping with the theme British International School, HCMC, took a team of 18 students of 8 different nationalities to take part.

The delegates – as members of each committee are known – were in councils as diverse as the Historical Security Council (1971-76), the Disarmament Commission and the highly competitive International Court of Justice, to name but three, debating an incredibly diverse range of issues.

The quality of the debate was excellent, and the students battled hard in their various councils to have their opinions heard and to produce global solutions for local problems. A conference to remember for everyone involved…

… when the debate was settled, and it was all said and done, we took one last opportunity to have a little fun and produce our own SEOMUNequine challenge. Enjoy!
