On the Tu Xuong BIS Hub this week:
May knowledge Increase
‘Crescat scientia’ is the school motto which appears on the emblem worn by every child at the British International School. In our special science assembly on Wednesday afternoon, Ms Lucy (one of the science teachers from AP2) reminded us that this motto means, ‘may knowledge increase’. Science is knowledge and this week we have had a big focus on inspiring children from F1 to Year 6, to ask questions in the pursuit of knowledge – in other words...it was 'Science Day'.
The children were very excited on Wednesday afternoon as they entered the Sports Hall. Along with Ms Lucy, our friend Mr Henry from the science department, had set up the hall ready for some amazing experiments. There were bright flashes and loud bangs as well as some incredible chemical reactions – it was the perfect way to get us ready for Science day the following day.
Investigate, experiment, amaze and explore; these are what Thursday were all about. I was fortunate to be able to visit all the classes to see what the children were doing and there was a sense of awe everywhere I went, whether it was seeing baking soda react with vinegar, or watching hair stand on end while touching a Van Der Graff generator. The children were also faced with a number of challenges including making a mobile phone case that was waterproof, shockproof, practical and ecologically friendly. The challenges called on the children to uses their learning skills to the full; enquiry, perseverance and reflection. At 2pm it was great to see so many parents coming to see what the children had been learning throughout the day; a special thanks to the Year 1 parents who volunteered to test the umbrellas the children had made.
In every sense, it was an awesome day! Thanks to Mr John and all the teachers and teaching assistants who worked so hard to make this happen.
FOBISIA Primary Performing Arts Carnival
In three weeks’ time the FOBISIA Primary Performing Arts Carnival will be taking place at the An Phu Secondary Campus. 230 children from 16 different schools will be taking part and the concert on Sunday 20th March should be fantastic. It will be streamed live over the Internet, so it you would like to watch, please see Mr Jon’s post with all the details, and an update on the how the practices are going:
If you have not yet made plans for the summer, for children in Years 5 and 6 there is an opportunity to join children from around the world at the Juilliard Summer School in Switzerland in July. Over a 2 week period, the children can specialise in dance, drama or music and receive tuition from staff from the Juilliard School in New York. For more details, follow the link:
Congratulations to our finer diners this week! Today, Ms Mary and I were joined by children in MP1 at the finer diner table. Colin, An An, San San, Ben, Anna and Kathy were all in the Golden Book for healthy eating and following the canteen expectations, well done! We certainly enjoyed your company and conversation.
Tu Xuong School Fete (Family Day)
