School Fête Preparation
The school fête will be here soon. It’s the main event organized by the parent group. On Tuesday the group had their second meeting to get more into the details. Like last year, the fête will provide:
- sports and games
- food and beverages area
- craft activities
- a musical element from TX students and parents
Following the steps of APS PTG, the group wants to raise the bar and also introduce a lucky draw, from which all profits will go to our school community partners. A team has already commenced researching prizes and has received positive feedback from spas and shops. They will continue to search for more sponsors. If you know of anyone who would be interested in making a donation for the lucky draw e.g. vouchers, products etc.., then please contact us.
There will also be a “tombola stall”. For the tombola, we need donations of small items for the stall. Examples of small items for a tombola stall are toiletries, chocolates and small toys. So after the Tet holiday, we’ll start collecting any unwanted items that you may have to be used as prizes for the Tombola. Please note that items must be new and sealed.
If you saw the TX teddy bears that were made for last year’s Y6 leavers’ party and did not get a chance to buy one, then don’t worry because we are currently looking into preparing more to sell at the fête. If we decide to prepare the TX teddy bears, then we will need any worn and unused uniform that you may have at home to sew the bears’ uniforms. We’ll provide more information once we have all details. The proceeds of the TX teddy bears sales will go to the school community partners as well.
This year, we are inviting 20 children from one of our school community partners. Ms Alicia and Ms Clover who lead Community Service at BIS, are selecting a suitable community partner to come and enjoy the fête. As a parent, you’ll be able to sponsor a child by supervising her/him during the fete and making sure she/he is having a great time.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 7th February at 8am. Location will be confirmed on the WhatsApp group.
If you don’t have your BIS PG t-shirt yet, you can still get it before the fête. We have 18 available (mostly size M). Please contact Duyen.
Têt gift preparation:
One amazing thing about TX parents is your generosity. In the last newsletter and through WhatsApp, we announced that we were looking for an additional 3.6million VND. The response was overwhelming and in less than a day, the target was not only achieved but exceeded. We have a special thank you as we received a total of 7. 4 million with generous donations from Ms Lan and other parents from F3, Y2, Y3, and Y4. Added to the 5.4 million from the parents’ fund, we have a healthy fund of 12.8 Million VND.
With the additional money, our TX guards and cleaners will not only receive the lucky money voucher for Coop Mart but a personal card and also a box of Danisa cookies.
On Tuesday, we tried to get as many parents as possible to sign the cards. ‘Chuc Mung Nam Moi’ was also written in Japanese, Chinese, French and Indonesian. Ms Duyen spent 3 more hours later that day, writing a personal message to each member of the support staff so they will know we care and acknowledge their daily work with our children.
Thank you Duyen for your time and beautiful writing.
A water puppet show for the parent lunch:
Last November, all TX students got to enjoy a water puppet show at the end of the International Week. It was provided by Bun Dau Homemade; a traditional Vietnamese restaurant. Well, it was the turn of parents to watch it on Wednesday. Huong Giang, the owner, welcomed the group and had a special show just for us. I think the group really liked the part where 2 puppets showed up on their motorbike! It was so unexpected.
What I like about the parent lunches, is that we always learn new things. For example, Huong Giang is the name of the river located in the middle of Vietnam. We also tried (for the foreigners ;) ) new dishes. All are very popular types of street food that you can find around Ho Guom lake in Hanoi. Van, who is from Hanoi, explained to us from which ingredients the dishes are made. Thom and Nicky, former TX parents, in APP now, joined the group. It was lovely to see them again.
Going clockwise from the top left, we have; Pillow cake, made of vermicelli, mushroom and salted egg /Steamed minced snail and pork with ginger and pepper/ Minced clam-worm with mandarin and orange peel / Fried fermented pork roll /Crab soup with beef, tofu and vegetables.
The next lunch will be announced after the Têt holidays.
It was healthy week in school, so parents decided to show their children the right example by taking a Zumba class. It was fun, energetic and some parents are really motivated to continue after the holidays. Thank you Mr Long, from Nicky Zumba, who came to school to deliver the Zumba class.
It’s with Emily’s (Y1) drawing that the PG group would like to wish you ‘Chuc Mung Nam Moi’. Enjoy the celebrations and may the Year of the Rooster be a fantastic one.
