Celebrating Diwali – The Festival of Light in F3

F3 had a wonderful Diwali afternoon, with the kind support of our mums who brought in a variety of Indian celebration costumes for us to dress up and try on, coloured sand for us to sprinkle and make Rangoli patterns, bindis to enhance our costumes, as well as some delicious home-made Indian treats made with coconut and condensed milk. Children mixed the ingredients and rolled it into balls before then tasting. Delicious!

Earlier in the week, children made and decorated Diva clay pots to take home with a candle in and our wonderful mums also brought sparklers for the teachers to demonstrate. (We had a sparkler show during Thursday’s tremendous rainstorm - it certainly was a great atmosphere). These activities really brought home the idea of Diwali being a festival of lights.

We used face paint to recreate beautiful henna designs on hands and we shared a book about Diwali. Our Indian children told us about how they have lights decorating their trees at home and about eating a LOT of sweets.

It’s always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate life, festivals and traditions from all the nationalities represented in BIS HCMC and it was great to have the support of our families to provide a rich and meaningful experience for our children.

Happy Diwali to all that celebrate it from F3!

Ms Maria Shooter, F3 Class teacher and F3 Year Leader
