The weekend started with a fun shopping trip to Stanley Market where we were able to buy all sorts of interesting souvenirs and found time to eat ice cream down by the seaside, but soon the hard work began and we started rehearsing in earnest to prepare for Sunday’s ‘Best of British’ celebration concert. It was wonderful to see children from different schools rehearsing together, showing great dedication and perseverance.
As well as hours of rehearsals we found time to watch a wind quintet perform, took part in some fun workshops where we made flags, danced and did Chinese drumming and enjoyed watching all the schools perform for each other at FOBISIA’s Got talent. One of the highlights had to be our amazing Vietnamese hat dance!
The highpoint of the weekend was the celebration concert when all of our hard work paid off as we dazzled the audience with our singing, playing and flag waving. We were joined by bagpipes, harps and steel drums to make it a truly memorable performance. To round off the festival we enjoyed a disco with burgers, popcorn, ice cream and a final chance to say goodbye to our new friends before a very early wake up call for us to fly back to Ho Chi Minh.
Ms Beth and Mr Jon were very impressed by the children’s high standards of behaviour and hard work throughout the weekend – we were very, very proud of all of you and would like to say thank you and congratulations to Winnie, Joel, Jessica, Junseo, Yun Seo, Anya, Ida Maya, Jeemin, Jimin, Min Young, Tae Wan and Ji Hoo from APP and Risa, Thao My, Katie, Mathilde and Naeyun from TX. Also a special mention to Kien and Joy who, sadly, were unable to join us in Hong Kong but attended all our rehearsals and helped us learn our music and Vietnamese hat dance.
