APP Donation Report – Spring Fair 2017

With many community projects and ECAs on offer, more and more students are choosing to support the community. It is not only the students that support our partners by giving their time and energy, our parent community work extremely hard is providing charitable support.

  • BIS HCMC APP Donation Report – Spring Fair 3 (800x600)

The Spring Fair is the main fundraiser of the year and a way for the school community to support all of the BIS HCMC community partners. In Term 1, representatives of the PTG, along with the Community Department visited a number of community partners to try and understand more about these organisations that the school support.

More information about the visits here:

PTG Visits 'Free Education' Schools

In Term 2 2017, the Community Department received a very generous donation by the PTG.

Here is what was bought with that money:

Binh Tho, Binh An and Binh Trieu School

Binh Tho, Binh An and Binh Trieu School are all school’s for disadvantaged children in HCMC who work under the organisation called Friends for Street Children (FFSC). Many of the children can’t afford or don’t have the right paperwork to go to government school. Many of the children go to school for half the day and then will support their families by working for the rest. BIS have partnered with these schools for the past 3-5 years, supporting the children’s learning by inviting them to join in weekly clubs.

  • Binh Tho School

Binh Tho is temporarily based at a house in Thu Duc District but Sister Khuong is hoping that they will get their new school soon. 15,000,000VND from the Spring Fair as well as previous PTGs funds have supported Binh Tho with new education equipment such as, a microphone & speaker, a television to watch educational videos, stationery, books as well as new fans and a water dispenser!

  • Binh An

15,000,000VND has been put aside for Binh An School to receive schools books in the new year!

  • Binh Trieu

Binh Trieu are currently in the process of building a new school for the hundreds of students that attend each day, as well as a new shelter for the 30 children that live their permanently.16, 140,000 VND from the PTG Bake Sale last year has gone towards buying the cement and central structures for the building and we look forward to seeing their new school soon!

20,000,000VND has also been put aside for education equipment which BIS HCMC will be purchasing in the New Year - hopefully in time for when their new classrooms are open!

Thien Phuoc Foster Home for Disabled Children

Thien Phuoc is BIS HCMC’s longest partnership, from weekly clubs and play dates to Christmas parties, we always try to support them as much as we can. Many of the children at Thien Phuoc Foster Home have physical as well as mental disabilities. PTGs on all campuses have previously allocated their funds to supplying the orphanage with a weekly delivery of nappies. This year, 33,040,00VND was initially allocated towards this but since then, the PTG have arranged for a sponsorship of nappies to Thien Phuoc! This has allowed Sister Kim to think about what would really benefit the children at Thien Phuoc.

A few years ago they were given a physiotherapy bike to support with daily exercises for the children. The number of children at Thien Phuoc has now risen to over 60 and when asked for their wish list, Sister Kim said they were in need of another bike.

As this was a large amount of money, the community department looked for support from all campuses and thankfully, with the kind support of APP, APS and TX PTGs, we have been able to buy the bike that will be delivered to Thien Phuoc soon. With your support at the Christmas BISzaar, the PTG were able to donate their 33,040,00VND towards this cause.

Village of Hope – Danang

Each year the PTG set aside some funds to support with the organisation that partner with BIS during the Year 5 Trip to Hoi An. This year, 5,500,000VND went towards providing Village of Hope with resources for their school, such as paints, stationery and sports equipment.

Community Football Tournament

12,600,000VND was allocated towards providing partners and students with football shirts for the annual Community Football Tournament. The teams were a mixture of BIS HCMC students and partner students and having the team shirts was a lovely way to create a community feel during the tournament!  Thank you to the PTG for making the day extra special!

Goodie Bags – Hunyh Van Ngoi, Ngyuyen Hien and Giong Ong To School

7,500,000VND was allocated towards goodie bags for the children at our partner schools who work with Year 3, 5 & 6. Each child involved in the project was given a stationery pack – this was a lovely way for us to say thank you for their hard work during the school exchanges that take place!

Anh Minh School for the Hearing Impaired

Part of this year’s Enterprise Day money went towards equipment and facilities for Anh Minh’s new Science lab. To continue with their wish list, 15,200,000 VND of the Spring Fair funds was allocated towards lab room facilities and equipment.

The majority of science equipment as already been delivered and new tables and chairs will be delivered over the summer in time for the new academic year! A more detailed report of this will be in September.
