Regents Year 13 IBDP student and golf star secures United States college scholarship for autumn 2022 We are now celebrating another impressive university acceptance for our talented Year 13 golfer Sydney, who has been offered a college sports scholarship to study at Walsh University in the United States in autumn 2022.

At Regents our graduating students study the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and year upon year, produce results that are consistently above the global average point score, allowing them to gain admission to some of the best universities worldwide.

2020/21 was no exception, with 30% of our students attending the world’s top 50 universities. We are now celebrating another impressive university acceptance for our talented Year 13 golfer Sydney, who has been offered a college sports scholarship to study at Walsh University in the United States in autumn 2022.

It was in 2020 that Sydney first joined Regents through our Regents Lions Signature Scholarship Programme and she immediately felt welcomed by her teachers and peers; who helped her settle in to her new environment and gave her advice on what subject choices to make for her course.

Sydney’s scholarship at Walsh University will cover her tuition fees, housing, meals, as well as travel allowances in exchange for her representing the university as a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) golfer. For Sydney, securing the scholarship took time and determination. She researched the schools that offered both golf and academic courses that interested her; introduced herself to the universities’ head golf coaches; kept on top of her academic scores at Regents, as well as golf scores before narrowing down her options with her parents and finally choosing what was the right option for her. When asked what advice she would give to others who would like to follow in her footsteps, her top 3 tips would be: to start contacting coaches as soon as you can, to be consistent and to make a good effort.

Sydney is very much looking forward to moving to a new country and playing sports for her university.

I feel that studying abroad, especially going alone, will help me become more mature, independent, and a great way to prepare myself for adulthood. My goal is to become the biggest asset to my college team, to graduate, and finally start my life as my own person.

We would like to congratulate Sydney on her incredible achievement and look forward to hearing all about her experience at university.

A few weeks ago we celebrated the success of another one of our golf players Thonsaeng, for his acceptance of a fully-paid scholarship to The University of Texas Permian Basin. Read Thonsaeng’s story here.
