  • Global Goals Student Summit in New York

Nord Anglia Education challenged the students of the Nord Anglia schools across the globe to use the World’s Largest Lesson, supported by UNICEF, to develop ideas to raise awareness of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the Global Goals) and design solutions for two of the goals in particular - Goal 2, zero hunger, and Goal 3, good health and well-being.

This year, three representatives of BVIS HCMC - Nguyen Khac Hai Linh, Nguyen Minh Mai Khanh and Phan Hoang Kieu Han were invited to New York to discuss these goals and present the ideas for their communities on a global scale at a special side meeting at the UN’s High-Level Political Forum on the 14th of July.

Nguyen Khac Hai Linh, Nguyen Minh Mai Khanh and Phan Hoang Kieu Han made their own self-introduction videos for the conference. The videos are about what BVIS has been doing recently to help disadvantaged children and calling people together to create a community with ZERO HUNGER and a campaign to improve HEALTH & WELLBEING

As young people who are deeply passionate about sustainable development and the work of the United Nations, it was an invaluable experience for BVIS HCMC students to be able to visit UNICEF, one of the biggest bodies of the United Nations and attend a political forum to see member states addressing global issues.

Friday’s event was part of the Nord Anglia Global Goals Student Summit. Students arrived in New York on the 12th of July and went straight into action, begining work on the goals for the next year of the Nord Anglia Global Challenge. The children joined the Ice breaker activities by starting a Trading game at NAE school. The game aims to help the students show their interest in international trade issues and make friend with each other in the very first day.

Students actively discussed possible methods to ensure Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. They divided themselves into groups according to their regions to address the specific problems they have identified in their area. Even with the challenge of working with strangers, students were able to come up with creative ideas to promote eco-friendly lifestyles and raise awareness of the Global Goals. An example of the projects discussed was an app to get the younger generation aware and engaged in global development.

BVIS HCMC students had a great chance to attend the High Level Political Forum side meeting. A group of students represented NAE to share what we have done to tackle Goal 2 and Goal 3 across the schools.

After a long working day, our students enjoyed a famous show which is just reopening after 16 years in America. It's Miss Saigon.

The summit also saw students  participate in a Model United Nations conference in committees such as the Security Council, World Health Organisation, and the Food and Agricultural Organisation to debate topics related to the work they have been doing.

The children went around the building and visited a High Level Political Forum meeting of delegates from different countries. They also had a great chance to visit One World Trade which is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere and the sixth-tallest one in the world.

The Juilliard School was one of the most amazing places where our students had many interesting activities.

On Tuesday evening (18th of July), the students celebrated the fantastic and memorable trip in New York. The Gala Dinner was a celebration of their work and an opportunity to hear about the impact of their activities.

The students returned home safely on Thursday. They had been very active and actively participated in the activities of the past few days in New York - the UNICEF Global Targeted Conference. Moreover, they have prepared for themselves the new ideas together with BVIS HCMC to build a better life in the future. BVIS is proud of you.
