We'll build up our skills in phonics, spelling, and grammar while reading interesting stories from different parts of the world, helping us connect with a diverse range of literature. We'll share our thoughts and respond to ideas in the classroom through writing exercises.

We're posed with different problem-solving tasks, where we reason through the practicalities of real-world scenarios and calculate solutions. Every day, we get closer to mastering each challenge, working at our own pace through each unit.

During specialist lessons, we take centre stage! We'll boost our performance in physical education, music, and performing arts. We'll also expand our language skills by learning French or Spanish or also continuing our native language through BIS Houston's heritage programme.

We have many different opportunities to follow our curiosity and connect our learning to the world around us. While our teachers give us many exciting projects and challenges, during ‘Exit Points’, we showcase the variety and intensity of our learning to the entire community.

We’re glad to have voice and choice at BIS Houston. We decide what to pursue in our Enrichment Programme, including leadership opportunities like serving as House Captains, Sports Leaders, Well-being Warriors, UNICEF Ambassadors, ECO-Club Members, or IT Gurus.

After school, the learning continues! During co-curricular activities (CCAs), we explore the world that lies outside the classroom. We can participate in physical games and sports, creative arts and crafts, coding, or other activities that employ our critical thinking skills.

We begin every day by coming together with our Bulldog community, as we listen to and support each other, so we can be ready for a full day of learning. Our voice in the student body is important – we’ll speak during Student Leadership meetings, house events, or assemblies.

Moving between neighbourhoods and collaborative spaces, our state-of-the-art campus encourages us to enquire and collaborate. Because we have the freedom to lead our learning, we can explore the impact of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), design a landscape using Desmos, or bring literature to life.

During midday lunch, we relax and refuel over a nutritious meal in the Boma. We have quality time with our friends, and we can play sports, catch up with teachers in the Agora, or run a meeting among our UNICEF club, so we plan sustainable initiatives.

Whether we're filming presentations in the green-screen room, acting out scenes in the Black Box theatre, combining art and tech, or honing our opening statements for the Texas mock trial, creativity abounds! We're always finding inventive ways to use our skills and talents.

After school, we'll jump into the activities we love to explore. Whether we’re building products in the makerspace, representing our school on the pitch, chairing an MUN committee, or rehearsing in the theatre, we're always cultivating our passions.

We start our day by reflecting on our ambitions and progress so far, as part of our well-being. We share varied perspectives, meet with college counsellors, and take the lead through student initiatives. Through it all, we’re nurturing our open-mindedness, collaboration, and wellness.

Our academic choices are as varied as our interests – and as deep as our ambitions! We’re solving higher level maths problems, exploring undergraduate aeronautics, filming our own movies, and writing essays. We can match our courses with our desired future and create the path that works best through our goals.

We’ll pause midday to enjoy our lunch – choosing from a selection of diverse cuisine in the Boma or from a smoothie and snack in the coffee shop. Unwinding, we can catch up with friends, play sports, or tinker with our own robotics, as we leisurely explore what makes us happy.

We give back to our communities, whether it’s by organising blood drives, hosting the Head of UNICEF USA, or fundraising for our international trip to Tanzania. Through ‘creativity, activity, and service’, we use our skills and talents to be a driving force for good – in our school, in Houston, and beyond.

After school, we enjoy exercising our leadership and building community – whether it’s on our Varsity sports teams, while planning a national MUN conference, experimenting for the Science Olympiad, or rehearsing for the school play. We make the choices that define who we want to be.
