Message from the Principal

We are paying a lot of attention to our Grade 12 students this week as university offers have started to arrive.  We are very pleased with the offers, as it shows that our students are ready to enter the next stage of their education at some of the best universities around the world.  Nord Anglia proudly has an attendance at the world’s top 100 universities of 1 in 3 graduates from our group of schools.  Here in Chengdu we believe we truly support our students to be the best they can be and to fulfill their dreams.  As a result, our acceptance in Léman is currently 2 out of 3 - that means that our students have a much higher acceptance to the very best higher education institutes than even the Nord Anglia average, and highlights our commitment to supporting our graduates to be ready for the future.  I find it incredibly inspiring to hear these stories.

Our Grade 11 students were the audience today for a presentation from one of our LIS alumni, Mr. Jung Won Park, who currently studies at Boston University in the USA.  Edward shared advice on university applications, what is important to consider when applying, and what life on campus at an American university is really like.  It’s not all baseball and finding authentic food, but requires finding the right work/life balance and taking advantage of new experiences and opportunities.  We would like to thank Edward for his time today, and wish him continued success in his studies. We would also like to send a big thank you to Mrs. Pass, who has been working to support all of our university applications this year.

We have enjoyed clear air and glimpses of sunshine this week as our athletes compete in cross country events, both in our Chengdu International Schools Association, and in competition with schools from across China.  Our athletes train hard and have displayed a great deal of resilience and determination, and I am pleased with the individual success a number of them enjoyed this week.  What is great to see is the commitment to improvement, and that winning is not the only measure of success.

At Léman we are committed to providing a range of opportunities for students to find their passion and to follow their dreams.  Whether it is cross country running, or attending a first choice university, we work had to ensure that these opportunities are available.  We have a number of Nord Anglia events coming up over the next few months, and hope that we can send participants to experience for themselves these unique weekends.  From volleyball tournaments to maths competitions, leadership conferences to modern languages Olympiads, we aim to ensure a broad range of activities to appeal to all.

Have a great weekend, and let’s hope the pleasant weather continues.
