Students with little or no English language are supported through a combination of in-class and pull-out sessions. The program is a comprehensive one used in well-established international schools.

The development of language is monitored constantly in Léman, with each student studying two languages.

The EAL teachers are fully qualified and meet NAE's high standards for recruitment.  In Year 7 and 8 we have a parallel programme for English language learners in science,  humanities and language arts.

The Léman approach to language learning is one of additive bilingualism:  as students gain strength in English we work with families to ensure that they maintain skills in their other languages. 

In the primary years, the EAL team works with homeroom teachers to provide differentiated instruction in class as well as direct instruction outside the class for students who need a little extra help.  We use the Reading A-Z program along with targeted strategies designed to encourage speaking and listening skills.  Overall, the directive of the primary years’ program is to provide enough support to help learners access IPC objectives in English while promoting continued progress in their mother tongue.

In Secondary, students begin the MYP programme. Within this framework,  languages are studied at 'A' and 'B' level. English 'A' covers English Language and Literature, while English 'B' classes cover Language Acquisition. The English 'B' classes are more suitable for those with varying EAL needs. In some cases, these classes are split across two differentiated levels (known as phases in MYP), so the students language needs are can be met.

Students then continue to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme(IBDP) in Y12/13, to study English as a 'Language B' option, or if their English is sufficient, the higher 'Language A' option.
