Duke of Edinburgh Practice – Friday 12 April 2019

Last Friday and Saturday eight Leman students spent the night camping at Leman in preparation for their   Duke of Edinburgh Award Journey in May. The students spent the evening hiking and learning basic camp craft – tent preparation, cooking on a fire, orienteering, and environmental responsibility – as well as experiencing what it feels like to carry everything you need on your back while hiking.  After an hour of map reading and compass work on the school grounds, curtesy of Mr Neal, the students sent off across the river to plot various points and to hike through the bush. Then it was back to camp to cook their evening meal.

On Saturday the students prepared breakfast and packed up to a tight schedule and then attended a 2 hour First Aid Course ran by Dr. Leo’s Clinic.  A special thankyou to Rachel and Angel for dedicating their time to our students.  Dr. Leo’s Clinic also presented the students with a certificate for their participation and a First Aid Kit each for their final journey.

They are now fully prepared for their three day hike in May.

Jasmine Penstone-Miller, Joshua Huskisson, Xinran (Henry) Wu, Daye Yoon and Max Chavez are all working towards their Silver Award; Adia Semrau her Bronze Award; and Martyna Latanik and Ida Bohndick came along to support their friends.

Thank you Elaine Penstone-miller, Julian Penstone, Raymond Neal and Dr. Leo’s Clinic for supporting this event.
