It’s been a busy and exciting week for Léman Athletics. We have come to the end of our local CISA Sports for the second season. Regardless of final results, it’s always rewarding to see the journey that our coaches and teams take over the course of the season. So much hard work is put into development and truly special bonds are formed.

With that being said, it’s also really exciting when those bonds between teammates result in success! Thanks to the hard work of our dedicated coaches and the serious commitment of our student-athletes, that was the case this year.

Last Saturday was the CISA Basketball tournament, held this year at Meishi International School. Our boys’ team came in as the number one seed, but we all knew it was going to be a challenging day. With the steady guidance of Coach Tiffany Taylor, the boys played great defense and had quality possessions all day. After a strong semi-final win, it was on to face their rivals from CDIS. We had split the season series and everyone knew this would be a tough game. We raced out to an early lead, but our opponents came storming back to tie the game. This could have been the moment when things slipped away, but the team regained their focus and battled all the way through to earn an incredibly satisfying victory to become CISA Champions! After the holiday, the team will prepare for the ACAMIS tournament in Wuxi. We have a great chance at a double championship this season and wish our team the best.

Yesterday, was the U15 Volleyball CISA tournament. CDIS was the host, but used our gym so we could play two courts at the same time. It was an amazing day for the CISA community, with coaches, student-athletes and parents from every CISA School participating. One of the lovely things about having the tournament on a school day is that so many members of our student body were able to come and support the teams.

Again, the hard work and dedication of our coaches was integral to our success. Coach Victoria Robinson for the girls and Coaches Carina Corey and Rence Ricohermoso for the boys helped our student-athletes grow so much this season. Volleyball teams need to have stellar communication and collaboration to succeed and that was certainly on display yesterday. Both of our teams made it to the Finals and both of them had similar matches. The boys faced off against CDIS first. The first set was back and forth all the way, eventually ending up tied at 24 all. In the defining moment, our boys dug deep and got the points they needed to pull out at 26-24 victory. They used that momentum to win the second set more comfortably and bring home the championship. The girls would also have a tense match with CDIS. We lost the first set and won the second to set up a deciding third. In the end, the vocal support from our fans was the difference as the girls pulled out a thrilling victory. After our holidays, both of these teams will prepare for the Nord Anglia tournament to be held in Shanghai. We wish them both the best of luck and we know they will do a great job.

We are so proud of our student-athletes and all the hard work they put in. Our coaches teach them the skills and give them the guidance they need to find success and experience the joy that sport brings. We value the process more than the results, but three Championships in one week is also pretty exciting!

It’s always a great time to be a Red Panda.
