Elaine Penstone-Miller

Elaine Penstone

Subject Group Leader of Humanities & English Teacher

Graduating with BSc (hons) from Surrey University in 1991, she then went on to complete a Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Brunel University in London, and a teaching certificate in Surrey, England.

Elaine joined the school in 2016 having taught in her native country of England, followed by Botswana and Brunei. She has been teaching for a total of 19 years, seven of which have been at IBDP level. She is presently the Subject Lead for Humanities and Languages and has been coordinating the DP CAS program for a number of years. She is both a teacher and a parent within the Léman family, with her eldest now in her final year of Léman and her youngest daughter just starting Middle School. 

Graduating with BSc (hons) from Surrey University in 1991, she then went on to complete a Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Brunel University in London, and a teaching certificate in Surrey, England. After teaching for 2 years in a 6th Form College in England she spent a number of years undertaking field research with the Metropolitan Police in Scotland Yard before embarking on her International School teaching career.  

She worked for the British Council in Botswana developing educational curriculum, later moving to Brunei to teach IGCSE and DP English Language and Literature.  She is well versed in MYP and DP philosophy through training and experience, and has supported a number of students through their excellent DP achievements. 

During her years at Léman she has coordinated the Duke of Edinburgh International Award taking many students through their hiking and services requirements, and has led the DP CAS program to a high standard encouraging students to be innovative and passionate with their projects. 

Elaine lives in Chengdu with her family, her two girls and her husband Julian. She and her family have enjoyed the warm reception they have always received from both Chengdu residents and the Léman family.
