DIY kids Water Mist Magic Beads Toys Hand Making Puzzle Bean

with Ms. Yuki Fang for Reception, Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3

"The game aims for both boys and girls with different topics ranging from Princesses, Cakes, Dinosaurs to Cars, etc. The beads are colourful and safe, as PVA and natural pigments are applied. The kids can spray water on the models they make, to stop the beads running away as they dry them for 2 hours.  Apart from the topics mentioned above, they can also make as many as 60 different patterns as they wish or according to the brochure.

Junior Engineers

In this club, students will have fun exploring and creating structures with a variety of materials in an informal setting. Building materials have significant cognitive and academic benefits for children of all ages. Not only are they fun and exciting, but they help children develop a wide variety of skills and abilities. There are both short and long term positive effects of working with construction manipulatives. For instance, children can learn basic colors and shapes which are rote and immediate, while also learning visual-spatial awareness which will help develop future reading and writing skills. The children will also learn to cooperate with others as well as problem-solve during this club.

What happens if you mix milk, food colouring and drops of dish soap together? If this is the kind of question you would like to know the answer to and much more join this club and let's find out together. We will be making new discoveries of why and how. If you’re interested in experiments, construction, the ins and outs of how things work, drawing and designing this club is for you! This club will develop cognitive, fine motor skills, as well as a curiosity of how things work.

Small Skateboard for Young Children

with Ms. Eleven Feng for Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3

Younger children can use the small fish skateboard to slip, no moves, no actions, but more safety. To sign up for this club the students will need to bring their own skateboard (small) and helmet, knee and elbow pads. This activity is great for coordination and balance.

Sand Painting Club

with Ms. Theresa He for Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3

Painting has lots of benefits for children including improving hand-eye coordination, aiding colour recognition and rather obviously, but just as importantly, allowing them to be creative. The sand gives the paint a great texture, so it is even more fun to get creative with. Join us and have fun in the sand painting club.

 

Math Riddles and Logic Puzzles

It's all about MATH!!! This math club will keep students engaged while improving their critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are needed to solve logic tasks, as well as developing their visual discrimination skills. These FUN and INTERACTIVE brain teasers and riddles are perfect to help students learn to persevere through challenging tasks. Join this club to tease your brain a little...while having fun!

Finger Knitting

with Ms. Angeline Bru for Year 1, Year 2, and Year 3

In this club, students will learn how to create something by themselves, using their fingers. It could be a headband, a scarf, a toy animal, anything that comes to mind.
The children can make something quickly, the harder they work the more they produce, and the results are tangible, they can touch and feel the result of their work. It's great to work with wool in the cooler months, it has such a nice warming texture. Finger knitting is good for developing hand and finger strength and hand-eye coordination.  It builds dexterity and strength in those small muscles which control the hand, fingers, and thumb—all critical for later writing skills. Finger knitting also encourages concentration, and perseverance—all equally important for children’s development.

Cross embroidery

Cross embroidery is famous in China. After you spend some time learning to use your fingers, you can create a beautiful craft. Imagine when you arrive home every day, you can see a beautiful craft on the wall from yourself, what is your feeling? Also, you can make one for your family or your friends.
When you do cross embroidery, you can create many different images such as animals or flowers.

Junior Coding

with Mr. Ryan McKinnon for Year 3 and Year 4

As technology is playing an increasingly central role in our lives, the importance of digital literacy has never been so important. From self-driving cars to robot-assisted surgery, the language of computer code is growing in importance throughout 21st century society. At our Junior Coding Club, we aim to provide students with an introduction to the language of code through interaction with various online games and systems. Under the guidance of their club leader, attendees will learn about ideas such as block-coding, sequencing, binary, events, and data. We look forward to meeting with all of our future computer scientists and IT entrepreneurs soon!

         

Golf

with Mr Scofield Guo for Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6, Year 7, Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10.

Our LIS Golf team had great success at last year’s Sichuan Invitational Golf competition. This club will be run by our teacher Mr. Scofield Guo, who is certified as a coach by the Golf Association of China. This club is both for beginners to learn the basics and more experienced players to refine their technique.

Chinese Classical Dance

As a category of Chinese dance art, Chinese dance is a classical style characteristic dance, with certain exemplary significance. Traditional Chinese opera and martial arts are the basis for the establishment of Chinese classical dance training.
In many genres of Chinese classical dance, everyone can see the embodiment of oriental classical charm and Chinese Tai Chi thinking.
Breath, as an internal force that has always been under the control of humans, is the main source of power for changes in human movements. The elements such as lifting, sinking, rushing, relying, containing, coy, and shifting are inseparable from the breath.

Touch Typing

with Ms. Heidi Peng for Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6

Join touch typing club with our librarian, Ms. Peng, to improve the speed and accuracy of your typing. As pupils move into Secondary, the speed and accuracy of their typing becomes very important for finishing assignments on time, and not losing marks due to typing errors.

Eco Club

with Mr. Tom Ferguson for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11

This service club run by our principal, Mr. Ferguson, seeks to build student awareness of being a Green school and participants will learn how to contribute to recycling, composting and gardening projects to make our school more ‘Eco- friendly’. Care for the environment is an important part of citizenship education and a valuable life skill. The “Green” industry is one of the fastest growing sectors for employment worldwide as countries prepare for the future.

Writing Club

with Mr. J.C. Trowt for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13.

Welcome to the Writing Club! This club offers students the opportunity to develop their writing skills. The club seeks to not only improve sentence structure and vocabulary, but give students the opportunity to apply their knowledge of the writing process to various school assignments. Students will learn how to brainstorm and to write rough drafts from their ideas.  They will also learn how to take their rough drafts through the revision and editing process to edify their final copy.  This time honoured process is essential for students to write clear and logical pieces as well as help prepare them for academic life after high school.  Well written pieces will be submitted to “Leman-ade” the student produced newspaper.

Let's learn Korean and K-POP

with Ms. Katherine Hwang for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13

K-pop is a genre of popular music originating in South Korea. It is influenced by styles and genres from around the world.  We can learn Korean from K-pop and learn Korean culture. We will learn how to read Korean with songs. (BTS, Black Pink, (G)I-DLE...etc.)

Drama Club

with Ms. Sarah Weinstein for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13

This is the place students can come to prepare a scripted performance, to be filmed or performed live or both! Students will take part in all aspects of production both onstage and off. Theatre is a highly collaborative activity that requires everyone to contribute to the process.

 

World Explorers Club

with Ms. Jordan Olson for Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13

Students will explore cultures and civilisations around the world and throughout time. This club will enhance the learning taking place in the Individuals and Societies program by exploring the world through the context of geography, arts, architecture, and more! Students will develop their collaboration skills, as they work together to complete fun and engaging tasks that will challenge their creative and logical parts of their brains, while they learn about the world around them and ancient civilisations.

Creative Fundraising

with Ms. Katie Pass for Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9

This club will provide students the opportunity to explore creative ways in which to raise funds for charity and to serve the community.  Students will be encouraged to think creatively about ways in which they can make and sell a product to raise money for their chosen community.  This will target specific MYP Learner Attributes such as Caring, being Open-Minded and Inquiry thinkers.  In addition, students' ability to empathise with others and collaborate in teams, will foster and harness skills in contributing actively to meaningful and rewarding service.

 

Leman Videographers

with Ms. Patricia Williams for Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13

When deciding to attend a new school, the campus visit is an exciting and important part of the process. These days, it is much harder for families to visit new schools because they are overseas or because of restrictions placed on visitors. This is where the Léman Videographers come in! In this club, we will make videos showcasing Léman – the students, teachers, building, and entire community – that may be placed upon the school website or shared with potential families. You will improve your interviewing skills, practice editing videos, and produce content that will be seen by students and parents considering attending Léman. This is a great opportunity to develop leadership and public speaking skills. Students who are interested in video production are encouraged to join the club; no experience in making videos is required, though a willingness to participate in all areas of the production process (such as script writing, interviewing, filming) is important. The final video will be a great product to include in your internship or university applications.

Songwriting Workshop

with Ms. Monica Webster for Year 8, Year 9, Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13

This club is for students interested in writing songs. It is not necessary to have any prior experience. Over the course of the session students will learn about and discuss riffs, chord sequences, structure, intended audience, story-telling and lyric writing. The goal for the end of the session is for each participant to have a recording of their finished song. As well as developing their composing, creative writing and presentation skills, participants will have the chance to decide how they express themselves in their work. 

Under 19 Volleyball Boys and Girls

with Mr. Tom McCabe and Mr. Li Kuan for Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13

This year the school will not take part in off campus competitions due to safety concerns. However, the students will still be able to practise their skills in the gym with Mr. McCabe and Mr. Li Kuan. We will have a house competition for our sports teams so all students will get a chance to experience competitive games as well as be part of a team.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness, the ability to be fully present in the moment, can have numerous benefits:
1. to improve your ability to reason, plan, solve problems, think abstractly, comprehend complex ideas, learn quickly and learn from experience,
2. to train your mind to be calm and focused,
3. to enhance your ability of regulating emotions.

Magazine Club

with Ms. Elaine Penstone-Miller for Year 10, Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13

The 'Lemanade' Magazine Club is a student-initiated club that is now on its 5th Publication.  The Club members are responsible for the planning and creation of the Magazine, publishing and distribution. The purpose of the club is to encourage collaboration and planning as students respond to each stage required to publish a magazine which is suitable for the student body.  Club members may work to their strengths or try something new. Responsibilities include graphic design, writing, maths, proof-reading or visual images, as well as marketing and distribution. Full immersion of the writing process is a valuable skill to attain.

DP study club

Diploma students will have the chance to dedicate extra school time to their studies. This extra time will allow for students to self-manage their commitments and help to ensure they have time available to keep pace with their studies and potentially arrange for support from their subject teachers.
