Our Makerspace is a creative area where students can roll up their sleeves and get hands-on experience in everything STEAM-related! Through these activities they learn how to solve problems, work as a team, and employ their critical-thinking skills. We also have regular STEAM collaboration days, allowing for in-depth exploration of various fascinating topics through challenges set by MIT professors.

Yangshuo
Year 6 trip
For their final residential as primary schoolers, our Year 6s head to Yangshuo for a week of bona fide adventures! They take part in a range of awesome activities which challenge them, encourage them to try new things and push themselves, and see them accomplish things they never thought they’d be capable of!

Camping. Rock climbing. Abseiling. Orienteering. Caving. They’re all up for grabs on the Year 6 Yangshuo residential! The week-long bonanza of fun and thrills is a fitting salute to our leavers, who transition from Primary to Secondary in the most epic of ways! The trip centres around the theme of change, too: amid the adventures we encourage every student to reflect on their time at Sanlitun, and look ahead with anticipation to all that’s to come in their new school and beyond!

China Expeditions
Learning outside of the classroom
As part of our curriculum, older students have the chance to embark on week-long expeditions across China to learn about the social impact of service and outreach programmes.

Chinese cultural immersion

Beijing is the centre of China's cultural heritage and provides exciting opportunities for students to visit some of the most iconic landmarks in the world. The Great Wall, The Forbidden City, The Summer Palace are all in our backyard.

Xi’an
Year 5 trip
In the southeast of Beijing is Xi’an, where our Year 5s travel for the trip of a lifetime! In their unit on Battles, students learn about the Qin and Han dynasties, and visit the remains of great settlements and complexes.

Xi’an
Year 5 students enjoy a truly wondrous guided tour of the Terracotta Warriors and visit the Small Goose Pagoda, where they learn all about the world-famous Chinese shadow puppets! They take a bike ride along the ancient city wall and explore the Shaanxi History Museum to get up close and personal with some of the highlights of Chinese civilisation. They’ll watch a martial arts show, and even get to pick up and practise a few moves! Students learn to make their own delectable dumplings and make their way along the Muslim Quarter of the city to visit the mosque and haggle in Chinese at the market!

Global challenge
Our UNICEF programme motivates students to think about how they can make a difference both locally and globally as they pursue the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

The annual Global Challenge is set by UNICEF, and includes a trip to New York for seminars, workshops, and even speaking opportunities at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) at the UN Headquarters! The goal is simple: empower students to engage with world leaders at a local and global level to make a lasting impact.

Through activities with the Student Council, children live and breathe the school values within our community. This gives them a sense of agency over their learning. One such recent activity was our food survey, in which the Student Council conducted a questionnaire and presented their findings to the school's leaders!
