Temples, Tombs and Treasures Year 3 Ancient Egyptian Topic: Temples, Tombs and Treasures

This term, Year 3 are learning all about the Ancient Egyptians, in our topic Temples, Tombs and Treasures.

We began the topic with a treasure hunt around school, decoding hieroglyphics. Then we investigated where Egypt is in the world and what the country is like and how it has change.

The Egyptian Embassy kindly lent us a collection of replica artefacts from Ancient Egypt. The children enjoyed discussing what they thought the artefacts were used for, who might have owned them and how they were made. The children felt the artefacts and thought about what they were made from and why they were important to Egyptian life. This inspired the children to pose many questions which we will now try to answer in our Project lessons.

Quotes and questions from the students:

‘They must have been really rich because there’s so much gold.’

‘Why did they need a death mask?’

‘Why do they have hieroglyphics?’

‘Were the cats important in Egyptian life?
