Big Challenge

This year, the Global Classroom in-school Big Challenge is known as Make It Right. Details on this challenge can be found in our previous newsletter and on the Global Classroom video http://vimeo.com/108993317

Since launching our event we have had a wonderful reaction to our fundraising efforts. In Primary over 500 euro has been collected via our winter card sale (cards all designed by students). We were stunned to collect over 630 euro in donations from students, families and friends of BISB at our Winter Concert on December 2nd! Secondary students raised a further 100 euro selling Mikulas chocolates and juice. Thank you so much for your generous support so far.  If you wish more information on our project and fundraising, please email MakeItRight@bisb.sk

Over the following week, if you have a child in Years 7-11 they may bring home an envelope for donations. We are running a form competition to win a non-uniform day and pizza lunch party for the form which collects the most money. Due to the fact that classes vary in size, we will not just look at the total collected but also at which class raises the most donations per student. This means we have the potential for 2 classes to win a non-uniform day and pizza lunch. Thank you in advance for your support!

Last Wednesday, 3rd December, students from our Lead Secondary Group met with Mrs. Eastwood and Mr. Farthing to share the fund raising ideas they have developed. More information on each of their exciting projects will be shared at the start of next term.

Debate League

The first round of the Debate League finished last week. Well done to all our students who participated.

The results (scores and league positions) are available on the Global Classroom along with individual team feedback as well as scores on show.

In Primary congratulations to Team ‘Great Debaters’ who won their match.

In the Lower Secondary League,  ‘Bratislava Bosses’, ‘Formidable Ladies’, ‘Bratislava 5’, ‘Bratislava Vanquishers’, ‘Bratislava Flames’, ‘Bratislava Fluffy Unicorns’ and ‘Bratislava 4’ all won their matches! Well done to all our awesome teams (and congratulations too on your pretty amazing names!).

In the Upper Secondary Debate League,’ Bratislava 1’ and ‘Bratislava 3’ won their matches. ‘Bratislava 2’ was singled out for special praise (along with their opponents BISH Bulldogs (Houston) for producing probably the best debate we had in the league. Despite losing to the Bulldogs, Bratislava 2 occupy second place in the Upper Secondary Debate League due to their high scoring posts. Well done!

Hour of Code

Students who enjoy computer coding – or who are interested in finding out the basics – can log onto the New Horizons area of the Global Classroom between 8-12 December, to make use of the many varied resources there.

Short Story Competition and the Open Mic

Coming next term in the Global Classroom will be our annual Short Story Competition and the Open Mic. More details can be found online.
