Leaving on a Jet Plane

Year 4 have only just got back from their holidays and they are planning their next one already.  Their new topic is "Gateway to the World".  To kick start the learning the children participated in a number of fun activities to try and get them thinking about airports and travel.  They went into the Big Gym which had been transformed into an airport.  The children carried out the following activities:

  • Jet plane
  • Jet plane
  • Jet plane
  • Jet plane
  • Jet plane

Packing Panic - a relay race where the children had to grab clothes and pack them.  The first group to collect all their clothes and have them neatly packed in the suitcase won.

Departure Dash - Children had to run to different departure gates when announced.  Sometimes the departure gate changed at the last minute

Where in the World - children used a map to locate different places that they had been on holiday, thinking about the distance traveled and the amount of time it would take to get there.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the activities.  They are now finding out about the way airports work as well as about different holiday destinations.  The funniest thing is that now everyone keeps asking "is it holidays yet?"
